I have coloring for the gel, I have red, orange, green, yellow, blue, purple, but im not sure if mixing all of them will give me black
how do you make the gel? I’d love to know!
You could just use clear gel, but use a black sharpie to draw a zebra pattern on the clear container.
@2late2be if it’s inexpensive try it. On the docuColor at work magenta, yellow, and cyan can make a close to black color. I don’t see why mixing them all wouldn’t work.
That would be my suggestion, too. Try mixing the colors together. The other alternative I can think of would be to suspend something like black glitter in the gel. Good luck!
@XOIIO The gel you can buy it a Hobby Lobby, actually.
Cool. I doubt we have any of those though :(
Well you can still buy it at any crafts store.
If you go to a craft store, you should be able to buy black food coloring.
Food coloring is water based and candles are an oil base.
In the past I had occasion to do some searching about candlemaking supplies. There are tons of online places that sell to the general public even if they are labeled as wholesale.
However, it may require a bit of trial and error as acheiving a true black is difficult. Many of them are closer to a very dark blue or purple. But I’m sure that there would be some out there that would work.
I also remember that there were some sites which also had forums for folks to trade info and tips which may save you some money from the trial and error method.
Blue, Purple and Green will give you a “Rembrandt Black”…
A nice soft hue.
You can adjust to your taste…
Zebras appear to be black but are a very dark brown, as evidenced by the photo of this foal. If your black errs on the side of brown, it’s good.
