How can I get Apple Mail to only show my last 100 e-mails instead of downloading every single one?

Asked by rawrgrr (1568points) October 25th, 2009

Is there a way I can get Apple Mail to only keep my recent e-mails instead of having to fill up my computer with thousands of e-mails I don’t need? Is there a setting? (Also I’m using IMAP so I still want those other emails stored on the server just not on my computer)

Do you mean the on the mail program on your mac? I don’t know if there is a way to only show the last 100, but what you can do is go to preferences, then accounts, then advanced , and under “Keep copies for offline viewing” Select “don’t keep copies of any messages”. That will keep it from downloading them to your computer, but you can still access them from the server.

Hope that helps!

Thats what I do. It takes half a second to view each email instead of instantaneous but still better than having 6000+ emails on my computer.
