I am trying to decide on a task manager for my mac and iphone. I use mobileme and have no problem paying for a yearly service. I just can not decide on which application is better. Or is there another task manager I am missing all together. I want simple, but feature rich at the same time.

It really depends on your needs. I’ve thought remember the milk is simple but not feature rich. I haven’t found a system that does everything I’d like it to do. Good luck, I’ll follow this question to see other recommendations.
@limeaide that’s the problem I’m having. Finding one that really has it all. What do you currently use?
I recently switched a notebook. Works surprisingly well.
I use RTM, synced with my Google Calendar. They work very well together, and also have corresponding smartphone apps.
I don’t know. You are using a Mac? Everyone seems to love Things, but I have no experience with it.
@pdworkin yes I’m on a mac. I too have heard amazing things about..things. I’m just hesitant to commit to one. I’ve heard good things about rememer the milk as well. I’m just not sure. I’ve also just found out about something called hitlist which looks equally interesting.
Thanks for this question!!! I’ve just switched to Mac and looking for substitutes for all my office software. Yes, I’ve tried Entourage (MS Office for Mac), but is just seems perverse using MS software on a Mac.
I’m currently using the free version of xmind, it’s a mind mapping software. I like it because I can attach e-mails, have as many subtasks I want and drag’n’drop prioritize things. I’m running xmind mobile and have it running from dropbox, so I can run my project list from anywhere.
I’ve been on Things since it was in free beta form. I have the iPod Touch form. I can’t say enough good about it.
It can be as simple or complex as you need. it is just amazing how well it works for my mind flow.
@naked homer have you heard of the hit list? It’s a new task manager that seems better than things. How would you compare the two?
@rguest – No I have not. I will take a look at it and see!
I used RTM for a while, and switched over to Things. The interface is much simpler and more functional than RTM’s, which is to be expected: Things is written in Cocoa, and RTM is written in PHP.
I find that Things’s iCal integration is handy, but really I just like how intuitive and nice the interface is. I’m lazy enough as it is: I don’t need to do work to try to remind myself to do work.
As for The Hit List, I think I might like that as much as Things, but I’ve already paid for Things, so I’m not going anywhere.
@Dominic have you tried/heard of something called ReQall? I’m also considering this.. especially with the new evernote integration. What do you think? http://blog.evernote.com/ Also simplenote looks like a simple task manager as well. They have a new desktop app. You seem to have a very good handle on all of this, so what is your opinion? Thanks!
@rguest That ReQall thing looks like the holy grail of software: the more information you throw at it, the more useful it becomes. (See also the Fever RSS Reader.) Most software hits an information overload at some point.
Regarding its use of Evernote, I’ve always loved the OCR it does, but I also struggled to find a really good use for it; ReQall strikes me as a wonderful use of the “solution in search of a problem” that Evernote has always been for me. I’ll give their free service a shot, and see if I truly miss the Google Maps integration (why not? The more information, the merrier.)
As for SimpleNote, I haven’t tried it, but it strikes me as the sort of task manager you’d use if you find all the features of Things, iGTD, Hit List, OmniEverything, ReQall and the like far too much for such a simple question as “what did I have to do today?” It seems like the digital equivalent of an index card and ballpoint pen, rather than the day planner and administrative assistant.
I have to say I don’t see much that The Hit List can do that Things can’t. There are some nice UI differences like the tabs at the top and the card options. I also like the timer. But I don’t think that makes me want to jump ship on what I bought. I am not sure which I would get if I didn’t have Things already.
I can say I have followed the development of Things on both the desktop and the iPod and the company really listens to it’s users. I don’t mean to imply makers of The Hit List doesn’t. I just can’t speak for them.
I am grateful for the clue into ReQall. That looks like a cool app for my blackberry. I can’t afford to get an iPhone and use AT&T.
