What are costume contacts like?

Asked by lostinyoureyes (1121points) October 26th, 2009

Has anyone had any issues with costume/colour contacts? I wear normal contacts on a daily basis but don’t know how my eyes will react to the other types… I know they are larger than usual.

If anyone can share their experience with them, it’d be very helpful. I’m thinking of getting a pair for Halloween. Thank you.

They’re not too bad, depending. Don’t go cheap on them and inspect the package to make darn sure they are not opened or used. shudder

I don’t know what kind of contacts you regularly use- but the costume ones feel like the original Accuview ones. Not as comfy as the ones I wear (day n night) but not too bad. Be sure to take a case with you with fluid and wetting drops. Probably a good bet to take your regular contacts with you too as a backup.

It took me about half an hour to get used to them because of the size and thickness. After that, it wasn’t that bad.

This is, perhaps, the most humorous username/question combination in the history of Fluther.

@lefteh, I saw the question on the main page and then the asker and thought the exact same thing. Looks like you’ve beat me though. :)

Heard a optician talking about these on the news. Apparently they aren’t supposed to sell them to you without a prescription, but many places do. Generally safe with proper use, but you risk infections, ulcers, etc if you sleep in them. Does anyone know if it’s safe/legal to drive with them? Can you disinfect and store them like others?

@lefteh – Luckily though, my contacts have never gotten lost in my eyes. I could happen though if they happen to break.
