How can you force yourself to eat after crazy weekends?

Asked by seventeen123 (428points) October 26th, 2009

Partying can kill my appetite for days. I can’t stand the smell or thought of food. & It’s impossible to eat. Any ideas on how to fix your appetite?

That’s so funny- it’s just the opposite for me. When I’m hungover I feel like I can’t stop eating!

What exactly does “partying” mean? If it leaves you with no appetite for days, and you aren’t looking to lose weight, maybe you shouldn’t party that way?

@gussnarp
-drinking/rolling/whatever comes up.
nothing too major..

Call me silly, but maybe you could tone back on the partying?

Look. When you put all those poisons in your body, you are making yourself sick. Most people don’t want to eat while they are sick. Food is nauseating. Your body really wants several days of recovery. You can’t really speed that up, except, perhaps, by smoking some weed. Of course, that’s the last thing you should do.

Seriously. Cut back on the intake of the poisons, and you’ll recover faster and be able to eat sooner.

It is not normal to not eat for days. Give your poor body a break. Try changing your routine for just one weekend and see how you feel. If it continues I would seek a doctor’s advise.

DON’T ROLL. That’s usually a good place to start. Rolling also isn’t really “nothing major”; ecstasy is one of the more dangerous drugs out there. And I’m not some anti-drug proselytizer by any means, in fact I generally support legalization, but, as a 17-year old, you’re much more likely to use it and have something go wrong (overheating or not drinking enough water for example). E fucks your body up pretty badly. If you’re going to do it, you have to make sure to drink a lot of Gatorade (staying hydrated, replenishing electrolytes). Something you can’t really counteract, however, is the “coming down.” E messes with serotonin in your brain that controls mood. If you’re doing it often, you might not want to eat because you’re slightly depressed from coming off the E.

With drinking, the best thing to do is eat before you start drinking, pace yourself for the night (ie don’t slam back five shots the minute you get to the party; most people drink more than they should the more drunk they become), and drink water in between alcoholic drinks. Since you’re 17, I’m assuming you haven’t been drinking heavily for long (or hoping, I guess). Your alcohol tolerance will change as you drink more regularly. I’m not suggesting that you start getting drunk multiple nights a week; it’s something that comes with time. These things will help you avoid a hangover and the nausea that might prevent you from eating the morning after drinking.

And actually, weed does really help too. But it doesn’t sound like you need to be doing much else in terms of drugs.

@TitsMcGhee Not eating while on ecstasy isn’t because of depression. When I did it, I didn’t have a bad come down at all, but I completely lost my appetite anyway. I don’t know why, but it just has that effect.

@seventeen123 If you are doing ecstasy every weekend, or even every other weekend, you are going to severely damage your body and mind. Like Tits, I’m not some uber anti-drug freak, but I still like knowing the facts. And ecstasy is not a drug you should be doing all the time. If you do, drink a lot of water or, as Tits also suggested, drink Gatorade or Pedialyte.

I personally know someone who did ecstasy all the time, and it got extremely ugly and depressing after a while. Ecstasy it not something to take lightly – like weed. They are on completely different levels.

I don’t know man. When I smoke weed, or roll, or even do acid I get very hungry. When I drink I can level establishments with my black of hole stomach. Crazy substances fireup my metabolism.

Try some plain toast or Saltines or water crackers. Something very mild and bland and light. And go gradually.

YARNLADY's avatar

There is no need to do that. Just drink lot’s of water, with lemon juice in it, and then work up to a pot of chicken soup. Don’t try eating until you are actually hungry.

Not being able to eat for a few days might be your body telling you “What the fuck is your problem? You’re poisoning me!”

TitsMcGhee's avatar

@DrasticDreamer: Your mood can be affected when you come down off a roll; that might not be the specific instance here, but it is possible. (And I’ve rolled, so I’m not just spewing facts.)

Well, I am super anti drugs, make no apologies for it, and if it is drugs you are doing, it is not in any way good or healthy for mind or body. Thus your body, sometimes much smarter than the mind, is telling you the same thing. When you stop the crazy weekends, you won’t have to worry about it. The remedies suggested are simply avoiding the problem.

I would have to agree with our other friends… If it’s ” the hard stuff” ... You might want to take if easy. Your body is working hard to obtain those extreme “highs”- then to not have proper nutrition for days following, is a lot (especially if it is frequent) If it is alcohol, stay
away from shots that could cause you to get sick and a
slight aversion to food..

LOL FOREVER @ ROLLING

DrasticDreamer's avatar

@TitsMcGhee I know. :P I’m just saying that there might also be another contributing factor aside from a down someone might have.
