Halloween.
Or if you make a mess making a macaroni picture.

when you are a really old man with round glasses and play the clarinet. Or when you are a really, really eminent historian.

I don’t know. But a man in a grey suit and a red bow tie was at the grocery store the other day. I always think “science teacher” when I see a man like that.

I have a prof who wears a different one every day. It’s cute!

There seems to, however, be a certain age gap where it stops being okay. Maybe the 20–35 gap.

It’s really adorable on kids and (pardon my phrasing) old people.

I have a few professors who wouldn’t be caught dead without a bowtie – I’d say everyday if you are in a position of power, like a teacher or something.

When your not this guy! Any other person your golden.

@delirium I have to agree with the middle age gap. It seems to be okay on young and old, but anywhere in between and you could be arrested.

When someone offers you enough money that you can temporarily overlook the utterly embarassing looks and remarks you’ll have to put up with while wearing one.

With a tux.

When you are required to wear formal attire. Sometimes it is OK for actors when they attend award ceremonies.

I went to a gay bar tonight. A guy was shirtless with leather pants and a bow tie. So… I guess that’s one situation, where you can appropriately wear it.

Or if you’re Jim, and you’re fucking with Dwight.

When you feel like it.

It’s not like to choice of bow-tie or not makes the person/personality/look or whatever. Any given piece of clothing will look ridiculous on someone and stylish on someone else. Do you like it? Then do it.

It is ONLY ok to wear a bowtie if:——You are a chick and that is the only thing you are wearing.

Any time you like.

Whne you have nothing else on.

It is always ok to wear a bow tie. As long as it’s not a clip on (only use that for a rented tux and only if you can’t tie one to save your life).

A bow tie can be a “personality” statement.

“Heddy” on NCIS Los Angeles thinks one should wear a bow tie when one puts on a ribber nose and overlarge shoes.

When you’re starring in a movie about an obnoxious red headed brat.

@Yetanotheruser: A ribber nose?

Curiously apt…

@the100thmonkey I think I typoed a Freudian slip!~

Late to the bow-tie Q&A here, I know….

*Dad always wore one to church, and I thought he looked rather dashing. When he passed away, Mom gave his collection to another man in the church, and he always pointed out to her when he wore one of them. (But they fall into the “older” category, making it acceptable)

*I wore one as a waitress/bar-tender, but it was part of the uniform.

*My 21 year-old nephew recently posted a picture of himself on Facebook wearing a bow-tie, and it didn’t look geeky. Maybe because he’s a bit quirky and pretty self-confident. And the photo of him wearing his grandfather’s tux? He inherited Dad’s dimple and ability to look dashing in a bow-tie.
