Does anyone here collect new vinyl albums?

Asked by jaketheripper (2779points) October 28th, 2009

I have seen many current artists releasing new albums on vinyl as well as cd’s and I wondered who buys these? What is the appeal? Do you collect vinyl?

I do. I love listening to vinyl, it just seems fun to me. Its the only form of music I still buy.

Audiophiles love viynl.
They feel the sound quality is superior to cd’s. Vinyls absolutely have better sound quality than mp3 because there is no file compression on analog media.

I’m a record collector as well, and I buy new if I like the band, but I wont buy just as a collector’s item. I’m glad I’m starting to see mp3 downloads included when you buy a new record, best of both worlds!

I love vinyl.

Love vinyl, as well. When I go to live shows, I always pick up a vinyl LP or two.

I buy new vinyl when it’s available and listen to it. It’s not for “collecting” really. I also buy CDs. mp3 I don’t like. They cut out too much sound texture.

I buy both vinyls and CDs.

I buy vinyl for songs/tracks that only come out on vinyl. Although there is much to love about vinyl, storing it and moving it can be a pain. Also, it’s just not convenient to play unless you’re home. Digital has a lot of advantages, although sound quality WAS a problem in the past. Now, however, digital downloads are generally available in .WAV (same as a CD) and FLAC (lossless compression) formats that sound at least as good as a CD. MP3s with a 320 kbps bit rate are almost as good, and probably indistinguishable in most situations. Definitely stay away from lower bitrate MP3s if sound quality is important to you.
@forestGeek Agreed! Vinyl that includes a digital download when you buy a new record is ideal.
