Re-Plugging a Wireless Router back in?

Asked by cmadel032 (4points) October 28th, 2009

If you re-plug a wireless router back in, but in the wrong order will the internet continue to function for awhile and then suddenly stop? My boss, at the cafe I work at, is convinced I switched the plugs on the wireless router and is upset because he called a tech person then found the cords were switched, after the internet stopped working yesterday afternoon. My side of the story is, when I replugged the cords back in to the router the internet was back up and working for the next hour or so, before my shift ended, so I thought i had done it correctly….

I know that linksys routers like to revert back to the encrypted internet, which is set up by default. You might want to check about there being encryption on, because it could keep you from getting internet access.

The line from the wall goes to your Internet router.
Then a network cable goes to your wireless router which broadcasts the Internet connection to wireless devices.
Routers don’t just change configuration because they lose power or connectivity.

Also , unless your boss is paying you for tech support, he shouldn’t be asking you to troubleshoot network equipment if that is not specifically laid out in your job description.
