Aren’t oysters edible in months with R’s in them?

Oyster season started in September.

I am pretty sure they are in season when they get pulled out of the ocean.

Every month that has an R, but I would prefer to avoid September

You can (if you’re feeling daring) eat them all year. Unfortunately, oysters from the Gulf of Mexico ingest algae (the red tide) during the summer months (sans R) that can make them poisonous. Most people have no problem, but every so often (15 cases in the US last year) someone gets sick and dies. Odds are you’ll be fine.

As far as I know, oysters from other parts of the world are fine, so if you’re in Europe, you’re good to go. Right now should be great everywhere.
