Do you celebrate your wedding anniversary?

Asked by knitfroggy (8982points) October 30th, 2009

Today is my 11th anniversary. The first couple years we were married we really went all out, gifts, dinner, everything. Our daughter’s birthday is 4 days after our anniversary so celebrating our marriage has kind of gone by the wayside. We would much rather spend money on Grace’s birthday than ourselves of course. Plus it doesn’t really matter that much to me. Obviously we love each other and are committed to each other or we wouldn’t still be married. A friend of mine just thinks it’s a travesty that we don’t go full boar on this special day. What do you think?

It was funny though. He is on his computer beside me and I just poked him on the shoulder and said “Happy Anniversary” and he looked at me kinda confused and said “How many years is it now?” LOL

I think after the first few years it will fall to the wayside, especially if you have kids and what not. But, you should still celebrate the major milestones of 10, 25, and 50 years. And a little gift or something each years wouldn’t hurt.

Well… define ‘celebrate’, lol! We’ve been together 34 years, married 32, so at this point going out to dinner is about as celebratory as it gets. (or, as a good friend says, ‘celibatory’ :-))

We used to go out to a nice seafood restaurant that overlooks the Illinois River, then we would go out for drinks and throw darts or play pool. We can’t afford that now so it’s Chinese take out and sex instead.

We will typically go out for dinner “around” our anniversary since many times will fall on Thanksgiving day. Yes, we have gone out on Thanksgiving when it was our anniversary so I didn’t have to cook, but I love making turkey, and I hate missing leftovers :)

On our 25th we had a party, wedding receiptionish, with dj, food, and the like. This year it will be our 31st, and it’s also the night of the High School Formal. I will be taking our youngest son and his date to a restaruant then to the dance….

We’ll go out another night not a biggie. Our celebration will be that we have made it together thru thick and thin, and still keep on keepin on.

Maybe at 40 years we’ll make a big deal again, but by then our sons can throw us a party!

Congrats BTW on your 11 years and pray you have many, many more.

We’ve been married for 42 years, so no. We go out to eat every Saturday night & sometimes during the week, too, so it’s not like we don’t go out. We’re both happy with it.

Yes, we acknowledge it and go out to dinner and a movie. We’ve only been married a little over a year (14 months) so I’m sure we’ll do something big for the 5 year, 10 year, 15…etc.

Sure do. Pizza and champagne every time. It’s what we had on our wedding night too.

We’ve been married twenty years. We celebrate in the way that seems best for us. usually involves a donkey, a trapeze, several circus midgets, and a one man band.

Life is about choices, your results may vary.

I’m getting married next year but I sure hope we celebrate it! It’s an important day to us.

I tried to the entire time I was married, but the ex never cared enough to celebrate. Now, when I am remarried I know our anniversary will be the event of the year! Are you listening mabl8tr?
