Is there a way in the Fluther editor to set off a clause with dashes without causing the clause to be struck out?

Asked by Zuma (5908points) October 31st, 2009

If there is a way==other than something funky like this—I haven’t been able to figure it out.

It seems like you would have far more occasion to set clauses off with dashes—especially if you are writing in a hurry—than you would displaying text with strike-through; so I am mystified why it is so difficult to do the former and so easy to do the latter.

If you put a space between the – dash – and the word that comes before and after it, the text will not be struck out.

I wonder if there is anything better. I notice that the clause in question set off by dashes came out alright even though in the preview it appeared as struk out.

I think the spacing works fine. In “normal” writing I would generally leave a space before and after a dash in any case.

why not just use emphasis instead of setting it off with dashes?

It’s a limitation of the javascript preview engine. If you don’t want to be disconcerted, just surround your em dashes with spaces—you’ll see the spaces removed in both preview your actual post.

Thank you—finally—at last!
