I can’t see why someone would prefer one above the other.
They all have different uses. Facebook is sort of like an expanded address book, Twitter is geared towards short bursts of thought, and Tumblr is for extensive blogging.
Personally, I use Facebook to share photographs and keep in touch with my family, and Twitter to keep track of homework assignments and project ideas. I’ve no need for a Tumblr though.
Different strokes for different folks.
Or maybe…
Different Tweets for Different ‘peeps.

I don’t use Facebook and I hate Twitter. I do use Tumblr.
@Beta_Orionis well sometimes people are grumbling about twitter and stuff, cause its only 140words. well i use twitter for short updates and facebook to keep in touch with people around the world really
They all have different functions. Check them out first to see the differences and then you can decide what you need.
I have a facebook account and it mainly serves as my social network gig. I have twitter but I had it synched with facebook (so that every time I tweet something it appears on the facebook. Twitter is some sort of an SMS over the net.
@LeetaLuminate You can keep in touch with people around the world via Twitter as well. The short format exists for a reason. If they feel restricted, tell them to find a different platform! :)
The only one I use is Tumblr. The reason I don’t use Twitter is because my school has one—stupid. And I don’t use Facebook because I don’t know anyone with a facebook so why bother?
@karentookawalk well i got em all and true, twitters like an online text to everyone and facebook is like all access page to all of them :]
@LeetaLuminate So you know already the function / differences of each. Why did you ask this again?
@Beta_Orionis and twitter is a phenomenon :D in my country all of the famous people use it and sometimes i dont understand why they posted something unusual like ‘im on the bathroom.ready to poop’ LOLs is that common?
@karentookawalk nah actually i just want to know what people use the most.thats all :]
I have used Facebook to post photos and keep track of far-flung family. I haven’t bothered with either Twitter or Tumblr, and I rarely mess with Facebook any longer. All of them are black holes sucking in all my free time.
@Tink1113: ”And I don’t use Facebook because I don’t know anyone with a facebook so why bother?”
Funny, I don’t use Facebook because just about everyone I know has one. Heh. And there are a lot of people I’d rather not be in touch with anymore.
@MacBean That’s the reason I hate myspace…
@MacBean im no longer on MySpace cause it bores me lols
but facebook is boring sometimes cause we cant make things with our own theme its all blue and white
@MacBean :: I used to use Facebook until I got a friends request from my sister. My account was promptly deleted.
@MacBean lol is your sister did it?or you just deleted it?
@johnpowell I thought you could just rest the account, not delete it.
@johnpowell well if just rest the account, someone could hack it up and use it, and then pretending it was you using that account
If I have something short to say like posting a funny link I’ll post it on Twitter which is linked to my Facebook account. If I have something longer to say I post it on Tumblr which links to Twitter which links to Facebook.
I remember when people just had blogs (and just email before that). And it was good.
I frequently consider deleting the Twitter account, as I like it the least and everyone I know on Twitter is also on Facebook. Everything I post on Twitter is duplicated on Facebook, which is stupid. A lot of my friends do the same thing, so I’m always reading the same thing on both, which is redundant and a waste of time for everyone. But, I still follow some people that are only on Twitter and it’s useful for some real-time updates. I find the character limit pretty annoying usually though, which is why I write on Tumblr which then uses Twitter kind of like an RSS feed to notify people.
I’ve got one of each. Sad, right? I use my tumblr for a blog, twitter while I’m at work (eek. I know, for shame) and Facebook to keep up with old friends from school.
I’ve come to (reluctantly) enjoy Facebook. I’m happy to be keeping up with friends & family (and some Flutherers) whom I would normally have little time for in real life. Plus I post a photo-a-day there which helps with my photography.
I use a Twitter account for my job (marketing purposes). I wouldn’t have one for personal use. Truthfully, I think it’s pretty silly.
Tumblr looks interesting but I’ve yet to try it. As of right now, I don’t have the free time for a blog nor do I feel I have anything that fascinating to say.
I use Facebook, hate Twitter, and rarely update my Tumblr.
What about Friendster? Can’t we blow the dust and cobwebs off and still prefer it?
Nope.
@cprevite I, for one, love your pix. :-)
I just use Facebook. I have no interest in going to any other sites. other than here, of course
@cprevite Love the pictures, man. But I’ve said that many, many times. :)
Facebook is okay to pop in and out of. Usually too much happening that I really don’t care about. It’s fun to dick around for a few minutes or so at a time, though – I have some pretty entertaining friends on there.
Tumblr… well, I was enjoying it. I used to update semi-frequently, but the format itself isn’t tailored for intellectual discussion at all. I do post a rant on there every now and again or a particular song of interest.
Twitter is really fun. It doesn’t promote discussion at all, but I enjoy the ease of use and doesn’t require my attention. TweetDeck allows me to receive a ton of breaking news on the fly. If I had to choose the one where with the most entertainment value, it’d be Twitter. Plus, I like the open community a lot.
SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION
Facebook, then Twitter…I have a Tumblr, but I don’t really understand it. lol
@cprevite I wouldn’t say it if it weren’t true. You take some amazing photographs. Always balanced, always captive.
I use all three. I don’t really like facebook but use it as an address book. Twitter is my favorite because you can see what’s happening in the world or your area of interest in a few seconds. Tumblr is my diary or scrapbook. I use all 3.
I use and enjoy Facebook, but not for the games.
I have stopped using Twitter, since I really have nothing to say there.
I have never used Tumblr.
I’m in-between fluther and tumblr.
