Ever spend a day just telling the truth?

Asked by NewZen (3502points) November 1st, 2009

What was it like? Did you really tell people that they smelled bad, looked funny, dressed weirdly and sang off-key?

Did you call your boss an asshole? Your mechanic a scumsucking swindler?

Did you tell your buddy that he’s a cheating dickhead and he doesn’t deserve his wife? Did you tell his wife about his cheating husband? Did you tell your buddy that you’d done his wife?

Alternately: could there be a truth only day on fluther? What would you say to me, or someone else here, if you weren’t modded – a la wis.dm?

Go ahead, make my day. (You’ll be modded anyway).

Cool, that rhymed.

No.

Also, I think brutal and unnecessary honesty is over-rated. E.g. I wouldn’t tell somebody they looked funny or sang off-key for no reason. If they ask, I’ll give them my honest opinion- short of that, I can keep it to myself.

Edit: I like honest commercials on TV. They are rare.

I spend many days speaking nothing but the truth. Telling the truth doesn’t necessarily mean sharing everything that crosses my mind or spilling things told to me in confidence. I consider it to be responding truthfully to questions and situations that arise.

It would never occur to me to tell someone I don’t know that they smell bad or look funny, so I don’t consider that lying. It is rare that someone I do know would ask me one of those questions or be in one of those situations.

I am not saying I always tell the truth, but I can confidently say there are entire days that I do.

the whole world would come to a shreiking halt- .the pain, the anger

That would be pretty much every day.

By telling the truth, I mean speaking what I know or believe to be so without lying or misrepresenting. To me this is not at all the same thing as blurting out indiscretions and indiscriminately spilling out of my mouth every thought that enters my head. That’s not telling the truth. That’s just a mindless brain dump.

@nzigler Agreed. @Psychedelic_Zebra I only mentioned the mods in a good way, n’est ce pas? Did it not come across that way?

nzigler's avatar

@Supacase you said it better than i could.

Psychedelic_Zebra's avatar

@NewZen well you can never be too careful. I’ve been warned, ya know.~

@Jeruba The sexy brainster: lurve for mindless brain dump.

No. And that’s the truth. Oh how I love a dialectic.

What @Jeruba said. :-)

Being honest is not synonymous with being mean (i.e. calling your boss an asshole).

Ditto Jeruba.

@NewZen That’s your opinion. You don’t have to share everything you think. That’s where tact comes in.

1. Everything one says is their opinion. 2. The question was obviously in jest, with an acorn of truth to it – wishful thinking, perhaps 3. Everyone’s boss is an asshole, by definition, and everyone wants to tell him that (Bendrew is not a boss; their the owners of this site – and mods are volunteers). 4. If you again disagreee with this, perhaps you are taking things a might too seriously, and I’m not talking about your being a mod, as you haven’t replied as a [mod says]. <Thinks>:—Ahhh youth. I miss it and am envious.

I’m just replying to your question truthfully.
