Why is there Christmas stuff out at Target already?

Asked by simone54 (7642points) November 2nd, 2009

Last Friday when I was shopping for HALLOWEEN stuff, I saw that Target had Christmas stuff out already? I don’t get it. How does this even make them more money?

Marketing=money

The slow creep of commercialism.

Some people have to pay from layaway. So I guess the sooner its out – the sooner you can pay stuff off

I have seen Christmas stuff out in Sears since September. It is the best sales season so naturally businesses want to expand it as long as possible even if doing so is tacky.

i agree, money. it’s really a shame. seems like every thing is just so much Out There that nothing is super special now-sex, included. i liked using my imagination

More importantly: Why does Amazon already have a Christmas banner at the top of their site?

Well, I’ve already had to run out for some C-7’s for my Christmas village. We needed some extension cords for it too. And, Kohl’s was WAY ahead of Target…they had Hallmark ornaments in July and put up trees in August. Yep, I bought a light up tree for my village there, too.

@erichw1504 I already have most of my presents purchased…my last ones will all come from Amazon straight to my door

@faye: Totally agree with your comment. EVERYTHING is exploitable for a profit. I say keep your individuality to yourself, don’t become mass-produced, dude.

Christmas, complete waste of money.

There was just a similar post about this…

Maybe they just like to plan ahead?

doggywuv's avatar

Because busy people buy Christmas presents early.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@PretentiousArtist Yes. They have Valentine’s out by mid January, and St.Patty’s stuff along side it at most stores. They always have to be ahead, or they’d be stuck with merchandise.

When I owned a store, I had to buy for the next Christmas by Feb at the very latest, otherwise my stock would not have been in on time or I’d miss out on the “good-stuff”.

Because it’s the American way! :P We now celebrate Christmas 7 months out of the year. I guess all those people leaving their lights up year round finally got their point through to everyone else

SpatzieLover's avatar

@jsammons Hey, I resemble that comment ;D

My local Ace hardware keeps a small aisle stocked with x-mas bulb replacements/fuses/etc all year because so many customers use the items all year.

jsammons's avatar

@SpatzieLover Hahaha, It is good to be prepared ahead like you though. :)

SpatzieLover's avatar

@jsammons All I have to do is hook up the extension cords and replace a few bulbs ;D Then, in January, I just unplug the green strands and leave on the red & white. Then after <3 day, I plug the greens back in and unplug the reds….and on it goes! We love to celebrate!

well, it always seems to start early here every year. but i would guess with the money troubles people are having this year, they figure they need to start selling eaven earlyer than normal to give people more time to shop.

jsammons's avatar

@SpatzieLover Now that’s what I’m talking about! I’m glad to see someone who celebrates the holidays, most people don’t take the time to decorate and really enjoy them imo. My gf and I went into the gas station on Halloween dressed up as zombies and they looked at us like we were idiots, makes me sad that some people can’t have fun.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@jsammons I so agree! Life is not a dress rehearsal! Get out there, create fun wherever you go & live it up!!! ;D

Trying to get ahead of Black Friday.

Because they know I’m a sucker for sparkly lights.

My Target had Christmas stuff up while there was Halloween decorations, it was the next aisle over! It’s crazy.

@casheroo: I know what you mean.

I think this sums it up nicely
