General Question

I just found out the protein powder I recently bought and started to take has a decent amount of creatine, what do I do?

Asked by jdogg (871points) November 2nd, 2009 from iPhone

I’m 16 and I heard creatine can be really bad for young people and has many side effects. Will I be affected? I have only had two servings in the past 4 days and I just spent $15 on it. Any ideas/opinions/help?

You should talk to your doctor before taking anymore. The side effects are not worth the benefits.

your ok, it was only two doses, it’s not addictive or anything and in most healthy people its OK. Try talking to your doctor to see if it can specifically help you, it’s rarely bad for you. The side effects usually only include muscle growth. So go ask a doctor if it’s OK for you (probably is). Now if this thing was poison someone would have been sued since 1832, when it was discovered!

Too much creatine is bad for your kidneys. Likewise, too much protein. Definitely check with your doc before you continue to take it.

When ingesting creatine and protein you want
to make sure you
drink plenty of water. About 10 glasses a day and much more if you are working out and sweating. Creatine also needs what is called a loading phase to build up in your system. You are fine and your 16 year old body produces plenty of creatine for now. Also at the age of 16 you can get plenty of protein from a good diet. Supplements should only be used for heavy extreme workouts unless you are body building. Advertising an mass marketing has made everyone think they need supplements. Don’t waste your money. Purchase better food instead.

BTW, the fact that you paid $15 is irrelevant to your question. Your question is about damaging your health, not wasting money.
