Where can I buy a flapper dress in San Francisco?

Asked by occ (4179points) November 2nd, 2009

A friend of mine is having a 1920s costume party. I thought I’d be able to find a flapper dress on sale now that Halloween is over but the Halloween store in downtown SF is already closed. There are a lot of places to order a flapper costume online but you can’t try on the dress and it won’t ship here in time for this weekend without paying a lot for a rush order. Anywhere else in SF where I can buy an inexpensive flapper costume (the fringe kind)? I’m looking to spend less than $50.

You can try Spencer’s or other more permanent stores that tend to carry costumes. They might have what you’re looking for, but I would call ahead and see. If they do have something, you can ask if they’d hold it for you for a little while.

Have you tried googling Vintage dress shops in SanFran? I’m sure you’ll find more than a few options.

My friend bought one at Costumes on Haight, and you can rent them there, too. I think it was $50 for the whole get-up: dress, headband, long cigarette. However, I hate this shop. The service is horrible. If you’re paying with a card, they require ID.

@kirforce Many places require ID when someone is using a card. That is not a mark of bad service, its an effort to protect people’s identities and insure cards aren’t stolen. That’s good customer service to everyone but people who are using a stolen card.

@avvooooooo ID with card was an FYI. The customer service comment is a separate statement, not related. Sorry to confuse.
