Can I have some advice on this poster?

I made this poster for a friend running for a PO position in our Youth & Government, but I’m not sure about the layout. I think it’s missing something, or has something really wrong with it.

Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to fix it?

I am not a design expert, but it makes me dizzy. I think it has to many angles.
Switch the black to the angle, the blue to straight. The main thing is that her name is the most prominent, the black text is more so the way you have it.
It makes me dizzy too
People used to reading English will normally start at the upper left. So I wouldn’t put the year there, because that’s probably the least important part of the message. I’d put the word “Vote” there, and I’d put that on an angle instead of horizontal. Then “Emily Drone” across the upper center; horizontal, not angled. Then “for Presiding Officer” below her name, also horizontal. Then the “09” with stripes on an angle in the lower right corner.
I dunno… I kind of like the detail in the top corner.
Make her name straight (horizontal) and put the blue/red slanting part with 09 on it at the lower right side/corner. That way you can move the word VOTE to the upper left, and get your message across much better.
Dammit, @derekfnord, you’ve been reading my mind.
I agree with @Judi, the way you have it makes me dizzy, or want to tilt my head.
Don’t use so many fonts. Use the rule of thirds. Angles shouldn’t be so random.
Pick a nice, interesting font (not one of the ones you already used)
Most definitely straighten it out. Also, stick to two colors of ink; the white acts as the third color, and you get visual balance with odd numbers of color. Using two colors of ink will make better use of your white space, which is nice and clean.
The fonts you’re using for the copy in black are dated looking, and don’t work with the rest of the poster. Keep it simple. You have a lot of white space and will get “pop” because of that. I like the two color bar; it’s interesting, and strong.
1.) its missing her picture. Every political poster has a photo in the background, be it a happy citizen or a politician himself
2) There is definitely a problem with the composition. One of the key principles in design is alignment. The elements don’t align at all. You should make some guides and align sides of the poster elements to them.
3) Also the black typography has IMHO on the white background a little bit too much contrast.
