Recipe in a Jar?

Asked by pinkparaluies (1888points) November 4th, 2009

I’ve been thinking about making those nifty ‘recipe in a jar’ things for Christmas this year.

Anyone have any personal recipes that they can share? I’m very interested in what everyone thinks. (Even if this entire idea is a flop.. lol)

I love the idea!

As for recipes, I’ll have to get back to you!

I’ve never tried them, but they do look pretty and would make nice gifts for people who like to bake. I’d be happy to get one!

There are a lot of recipe-in-a-jar ideas at www.allrecipes.com. While they aren’t personal recipes, I often find the reviews very helpful and accurate. A lot of the reviews will suggest changes that improve upon the original. Have fun!

Oh, and for people who don’t like to bake, I think you can find soup recipes to give in a jar!

Thanks for the info everyone. I love baking so maybe I’m a little biased ;)
I love the cookie recipes. All of the photos I’ve seen are amazing.

I love this! I made them one year and everyone loved one particular recipe. It is called “Mexican Hot Chocolate”. I hate the name and would personally change it if you can think of something clever.

Mexican Hot Chocolate

I also second Allrecipes.com They are a fantastic recipe website.

These are so fun to make and people really enjoy getting them as gifts. There are fun ways to make the jars look nice as well. And the tags that go with them. Also it’s cheap, lol.

I love Amish Friendship Bread. You give a friend a batch of the starter mixture, a loaf of the homemade bread, and the recipe for both. Yummy and interesting, too.

Beer Bread! You can make the mix and tell your friends to pick their favorite beer to put into it. Everyone will end up with something unique and tailored to their own preferences.

I’ve received Russian Tea, Brownies, and cookies. I can’t remember what I did one year. I was so preoccupied by the special ‘homemade’ tags I made to go on them :P

I have shed loads for you.

I don’t use AllRecipes as much as I use Recipezaar, so all of these are from there.

Gingerbread Creamer

Brownies

Cappuccino

Toffee Creamer

Snowman Soup

Chai Tea

Cranberry Cookies

Oatmeal Raisin Spice Cookies

I hope that’s enough to get you started!

what is a recipe in a jar?

RedPowerLady's avatar

@smile1 You put ingredients in a mason jar and layer them so they look pretty. Then you put a tag with instructions on it. Give it as a gift to someone. So then they have all the ingredients and the recipe on how to make something really neat. Make sense?

smile1's avatar

Oh, wow! that is really neat!!! :)

@smile1 They look something like this. Really pretty, and simple to make!
