Where can I download a different-color version of the Humanity icon theme for Ubuntu/Gnome/GTK2 Linux?

Asked by RedMosquitoMM (539points) November 5th, 2009

I love the Humanity theme that comes installed as the default with Ubuntu 9.10, especially because of the themed notification icons and applets. But I really don’t like the orange color of the icons (folders etc.) especially as I always set my theme colors to a custom combination of black bases and blue highlights/window borders. I found Drakfire Evolution to be similar, but not nearly as professional or complete looking. Hell, Humanity is slick, just not the color I’m looking for. Any ideas?

Perhaps you could find someone that could write a script that would recursively read through the directories of the theme and runs some ImageMagick or similar command on it that will colourize it to blue. Though then again that is probably too drastic.

You could search gnome-look.org to see if someone has created alternate colour versions of it like with the Shiki (or GNOME Colors) icon themes.

I think googleing might help, that’s what i did to get a more lucid looking version of clearlooks.

I did some basic searches of both Gnome-look.org (which isn’t very intuitive), deviantart (which is much better to browse but has less Gnome resources than Windows, and Google – all three didn’t turn up anything.

Mybe you should try unpack the actual theme (i know it can be done, i have no idea how, though) and edit the icons yourself with gimp…

@Thammuz‘s suggestion is a hell of a job (you can just copy the files from /usr/share/themes/<theme name>) but if you do it, make sure to share it yourself.

And yeah, gnome-look.org has a terrible design.

…that sounds like an ambitious undertaking…I’ll consider it.
