I like San Francisco because of the water and bridges. I think it’s pretty.

nxknxk's avatar

To live in: San Francisco. To visit: Madrid. To take pictures of: Toledo.

I haven’t visited many cities.

Los Angeles. We have great weather. You could go skiing in the mountains and visit the beach on the same day if you wanted to. We have every kind of restaurant you can think of, and probably just about any sort of cultural experience. There are so many different kinds of people. Only real bad thing I can think of is absolutely needing a car. Public transportation is not the best here, and everything is pretty spread out.

Second would be Paris because of how easy it is to get from one place to another, the delicious junk food being sold on the streets, and the awesome buildings, streets, alleys, forest, metro stations.

I liked Milan only for how open everyone seemed to be. I swore everyone knew everyone else, and it was super easy to make friends, even with people I shared no common language with.

Perfect city would have some combination of all that stuff, imo.

I love Denver. The white capped mountains tower over year round, and you look from the east to the west, and the scenery changes. I look to the east, I see rolling hills, like a golden ocean.

Denver!!!! Home town!!! SNOW!!!!!!!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…...........there is absolutely, magnificently, stupendously, fantastically, truly and romantically…....no other favorite city in the world….as….....

Paris.

Hands-down…..it is transcendent…...pour moi.

oratio's avatar

@DarlingRhadamanthus It is a wonderful city, fo sho. I have a love affair with Vancouver BC right now though.

Garebo's avatar

Newark, NJ-hands down, Fantastic Italian restaurants.

LKidKyle1985's avatar

Please, if New York doesn’t have it, you don’t need it. I don’t know if New York is the perfect city, but its where the action is. I’m not trying to dis Newark, just coincidence you answered just before me.

DominicX's avatar

San Francisco. I kinda live there… :) It’s ah

Las Vegas is great too (I used to live there).

Out of the ones I haven’t lived in however, San Diego is the best ever. It’s just amazing. I love it. The weather is perfect all year round, it’s clean, it’s beautiful, it’s fun, it’s magical—I can’t want to go back. :)

Garebo's avatar

Second place for me is Vancouver, B.C, but they don’t have great pizza.

Garebo's avatar

Third place Missoula, MT.

MacBean's avatar

I’m with @LKidKyle1985. New York is the best. Boston is a close second for me.

YARNLADY's avatar

The Venus Project near Venus, Florida is my image of a perfect city.

oratio's avatar

@YARNLADY Looks very interesting.

Makes me think of William Gibson’s Sprawl.

bagelface's avatar

Wow, that looks a lot like something I drew 10 years ago.

galileogirl's avatar

@Garebo Newark, Really??? Come to San Francisco. North Beach has lots of great Italian restaurants and no mob hits during dinner. And the view-not a belching smokestack in sight.

Garebo's avatar

No, I just couldn’t restrain myself. My Dad was a pilot and use to say it was the armpit of the USA. I just thought never being there, it had to have some redeeming qualities-Italian cuisine!

OreetCocker's avatar

Prague is beautiful, the people are great, the food is fantastic and vodka is cheap!

gemiwing's avatar

I don’t know if it exists. I want to rent a small house in a nice neighborhood for about 550 a month, have natural parks within a half hour drive, quiet but close (½ hour drive) to grocery stores. I’ve had enough time out and about, I guess I’m ready for some quiet time in for a change. Oh and if the house comes with a pony- double bonus.

El_Cadejo's avatar

Newark is a great place to get shot :P

Cartman's avatar

Metropolis… very ordered, I like that in a city.

Otherwise top three big: San Francisco (US) or Paris (France).

Or Petra (Jordan) for the, really, old alternative.

OpryLeigh's avatar

London first and foremost. I love the amount of theatres in and around the city (I’d probably love New York for this very reason but I have yet to go there) and it is home to Covent Garden which is my favourite place in the world.

This is followed closely by Milan. I have some very special memories of Milan and will always love Milan for giving me those!

rooeytoo's avatar

There are so many but my favorites are Sydney, Washington DC and NYC, I love them all, miami and Charleston too. All beautiful hard to choose.

tomasreichmann's avatar

Prague, Czech republic. Born and raised there. The Czech Republic has very liberal laws (while still ensuring public safety and relatively low crime) that make Prague – the hearth of Europe – with its numerous Clubs and abundant social and cultural life the best city in the world :)

Jude's avatar

New York City

sdeutsch's avatar

Edinburgh, Scotland. If it wasn’t so far from my family, I’d move there in a second! Pittsburgh is a very very very close second, though – I do love it here. Maybe someday I’ll have the money to live here and vacation in Scotland every year…

janbb's avatar

Well, New York is just “the city” you know; if you’ve grown up there nothing else is quite as vibrant, stimulating or exciting.

Having said that, San Fran and Paris are neck and neck in second place in my book. But there are a lot I still haven’t seen: Chicago, Seattle, Vancouver….

ubersiren's avatar

The only one I’ve been in long enough to be attached to is Baltimore Maryland. I’ve grown to love it. It’s so quirky and unique. It’s like its own little world and maintains a “small town” feel about it with its comfy neighborhoods. Well, small-ish. Wanna pick some crabs, hon?

deni's avatar

I love San Francisco. Because the people there love it and want to be there and that gives it some certain feel that a lot of other cities don’t have.

aprilsimnel's avatar

London is my favourite city. It has everything New York has and Roman ruins! I just feel right at home there. Now, don’t get me wrong, New York is one of the greatest places there has ever been on this tiny ball, but I don’t feel as at home here as I do in London.

filmfann's avatar

I love New York, Washington DC, and would love to go to Paris.
But my heart truely is in San Francisco.

btucci10's avatar

My favorite city in Wisconsin (where I live) is Madison, the capitol. It’s beautiful and has a really diverse community and most of my family lives there.

My favorite city that I’ve ever been to is probably Edinburgh, Scotland. It’s gorgeous and interesting and incredible.

I would love to visit New York City, Seattle, Portland, Boston, and San Diego…

Jude's avatar

I went to New York City for the first time last year. Then, went back a couple of times after that. It felt like home to me.

virtualist's avatar

My image of a perfect city is one with easy access to well run casino(s) which are both, managing good space allocation for blackjack tables and rank well in professional blackjack publications/newsletters. A few come to mind. It might surprise you. But if I told you I’d have to <__insert verb__> you <g>.

Jayne's avatar

I sure do love Paris; I used to hang in the 18th arrondissement as a kid, so now every time I get a whiff of sewage, it brings back fond memories :)

MissAusten's avatar

My favorite city to visit is Boston, with NYC a close second. Several years ago I spent a day in San Antonio and loved what I saw there. I’d love to travel more and visit other places, but for now that’s all I got. :)

Coming up with the perfect city is hard for me. I’ve never lived in a big city, and while I love to visit them, can’t see myself living in one. The town I grew up in had a population of 8,000, most of which didn’t live in town. I like the area we live in now, which is very pretty and has easy train access to NYC. Boston is close enough to drive up and spend a day or two, and so is Providence. I guess I live in the ideal city for me, which is quiet, safe, has good schools, and is close enough to more exciting places!

zephyr826's avatar

I’ve never lived in a big city. My favorite city to be in is Québec City, Québec. I love the old city and the way the light hits the Saint Lawrence. I’d like to retire there, if all works the way it should.

CMaz's avatar

New York City all the way!

It has everything and is open all night.

NaturalMineralWater's avatar

I love Chicago most.. probably just because of the good times I had while I was there that I never had anywhere else.

New York City is definitely at the top of the list too.

Sueanne_Tremendous's avatar

I have been fortunate enough to have traveled extensively in the United States. I have been to many, many small towns and most large cities. I can truly say that I have never disliked any place I’ve ever been. That said, I must admit that I can’t choose one place. Here are my choices for the greatest:

Milwaukee is the greatest place to live. Chicago is the greatest city in which to eat and party. St. Pete Beach, FL is the greatest city for relaxing. Denver is the greatest for weather changes. San Antonio is the greatest for it’s Riverwalk. Nashville is the greatest for honkey tonks and music. Lulling TX is the best for Bar-b-Que. Oh, I could go on forever….

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

I am a hardcore New Yorker – I am all about the Yankees, the boroughs, the commuting, the people, the night life

If I was forced to live someplace else I’d live in London
when I lived there it was amazing

CM89's avatar

I’d have to say London. I’ve only lived there for 2 and a bit years but it’s been wonderful! Great energy!

wundayatta's avatar

The Yankees are an exceedingly selfish and annoying team. Philadelphia is a surprisingly livable city. Perhaps the most European of American cities. But don’t move here. We don’t need a bunch of outsiders messing things up. You can visit if you want.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@daloon well thanks for your opinion. I will continue to be their fan.

JLeslie's avatar

I don’t know if I can pick one. Toronto I like very much. NYC, Rome, Tokyo, DC, San Diego, this question is too hard for me. So many cities I think I would love, but have never been, Seville, Madrid, Stockholm (in the summer), too many choices.

Perfect city would be near a large body of water like an ocean/sea, clean, safe, lots of public tranportation, warm all year with sunny days, some humidity, lots of places to gather and be al fresco, very international with people from everywhere, and quality food from everywhere.

wundayatta's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir And I will continue to be their anti-fan unto death. [Red Sox and Phillies fan].

deni's avatar

GO PIRATES WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hahahahahahahhahah oh the pirates

rooeytoo's avatar

We all know what W C Fields has to say about Philadelphia

janbb's avatar

@rooeytoo I never spent two weeks there but I did win a contest once and had to spend two days there. :-)

rooeytoo's avatar

I always kind of liked Philly. The high school I attended was a prep school for a college in Philadelphia so I spent a lot of weekends there being indoctrinated (it didn’t take, I didn’t go to their college). Lots of fun college “mixers” in those days.

My worst experience was at the Phila Dog show when it was benched. The ceiling of the convention center started to fall down in huge chunks, no one was injured but it was a close call.

Love Philly cheese steaks!

janbb's avatar

actually, I’ve spent a fair bit of time in Philly too over the years and like it also.

tabbycat's avatar

New York is number one. I’ve wanted to live in Manhattan ever since the first time I was there at age thirteen. Others that are high on my list are London, Paris, and Toronto. I’m also quite fond of L.A. and San Francisco—as well as Chicago and Seattle.

LeetaLuminate's avatar

Surakarta, my beloved town! its in indonesia, and its all full of cultural things to do!!

sdeutsch's avatar

@deni lurve for making me laugh! :)

RareDenver's avatar

It would have to be London and then maybe Berlin

deni's avatar

@sdeutsch hahahaha :) see, the pirates being an embarrassment to the city has perks too…

sdeutsch's avatar

@deni So true, so true… Just goes to show we don’t take our sports too seriously… ;)
