Will you observe a moment of silence at 1:30 today for the victims of Ft. Hood?

I just received a text from my son’s friend Zach, who is stationed at Ft. Hood. I think it came down from his commanding officer to be forwarded to his men. There will be a moment of silence at Ft Hood at 1:30, and nothing there will move during that time. (The end of the message said to notify all soldiers that it was mandatory to honor this.) PS, I assume it would be central time as Ft Hood is on central time. I think.

Oh good, I thought I just missed it. Yup, will do it.
what is it called when you laugh at overly serious things and you cant help it? and consequently everyone thinks you’re an insensitive asshole.
funerals, moments of silence, death in general
I’m one of those
@patg7590 I have that problem at times too…I once had a LOUD case of hiccups during a very somber funeral and then had to suppress hysterical laughter
@Val123 My son & I will say a Hail Mary at that time instead.
Now that I know it’s happening. Yes. Thank you @Val123
Absolutely, I will. Thank you for letting me know… I’m in California, so is it 12:54pm there now or did I miss it?
@sccrowell No, it’s in about 30 minutes. It’s 12:58 here, CST.
is it silly to do this if you’re by yourself?
@patg7590 Maybe you could just look at the news at that time? I’m sure they’ll broadcast it…quietly
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates declared the moment of silence, planned for 24 hours after the shooting, at 2:34 p.m.

Hm.. Zachs text said 13:30….
Thank you for posting this.
@patg7590 That would be 2:34 east coast time.
yeah my point was 34 vs 30
My whole base (Scott AFB) will be at exactly 13:34(CST), three minutes!
Everyone else should too.
@all prayer was said along with signs of the cross.
Thanks for posting @Val123
This is probably bad, but as I was contemplating the victims and their families during the moment of silence, I couldn’t help but wonder how long a “moment” was….
@Val123 it’s normal…that’s why I pray (even silently if in a group of people) during “moments” instead of allowing my brain to wander
I ask because I’ve always considered a “moment” to be more like a minute, but when I’m reading it always seems to be in context of a “second.”....
