Have you ever looked at something and seen something else, and had it throw off your day?

You know how you’d be sitting in class and the teacher draws something on the board and you make it out to be something other than what it really is? Like, they draw a map of a country and it looks like an animal or something?

One of the tiles in my shower makes the pattern of a skull. It creeps me out to the point that I have to use those markers for the bath tub to color over it or I can’t take a shower.

Anyone else do this?

I know exactly what you mean. I once had a bath mat that fell on the floor in the shape of a sea cow. Freaked the bee-jesus out of me and I couldn’t step out of the shower. I had to wait until Jenn got home and she straightened out the mat. It was so weird.

I once drove up to my house and saw something in the next door neighbor’s yard that my brain simply failed to identify. It is the weirdest feeling. I blinked, shook my head, and looked again. Finally, I recognized there was a skinned deer carcass hanging from a tree. The loose skin was hanging down covering the head so all I could see was this essentially random slab of meat. It was beyond horrible.

I also join you in seeing patterns in walls, ceiling and floors. I had textured walls in my last house, and it drove me nuts because my eyes would pick out strange images as patterns. Like a Lizard warrior wearing a Chinese-style robe.

Actually, yes. Not to the point of being scared of it, but ever since I was a kid and had been going to my grandmother’s house, I noticed that the window shades in the room I always slept in (they were yellow shades made out of cloth) had an area in the bottom left corner that looked like this really creepy-looking woman. It was just the arrangement of the threads and fibers that created an evil-looking face with long hair. It’s still there. When you get right up close to it, it looks a lot less like a face, though; it’s only really from far away. If you look close enough in various parts of those yellow window shades, you can see all kinds of other shapes and designs that are there by chance. It’s very interesting.

As with @Marina, textured walls have all kinds of patterns. I’ve seen dinosaurs in them. :)

My mom told me about in her house growing up before the bathroom was remodeled, there was a damaged part of the wall that created the shape of a Native American woman if you looked at it one way, and the shape of a large bird if you looked at it another way.

Sometimes I look up in the sky and see, like, this huge dipper thing. Freaks me out.

usually only when I have a fever. But sometimes, those big white fluffy things in the sky during the day look like monsters, castles, and even scary faces. I wish someone would make them go away.

The linoleum in the bathroom at our last house had Snoopy in it.

I believe this is called visual dichotomy, if I’m not mistaken. Akin to one of those optical illusion pictures like this one.
