floating on my back in a beautiful crystal clear river and having bright blue lacy dragon flies land on my toes
Untouched blankets of heavy snow on the trees of a quiet forest.
yes, snow, huge flakes falling, walking home in the late evening with no cars
The reflection of sunlight off water.
Sunrise on the edge of fog.
A gust of wind shaking thousands of scarlet and golden oak leaves from the trees against the backdrop of a blue sky with cottonball clouds.
Asheville North Carolina the last three weeks. Mountains full of colorful foliage.
Have to agree with @forestGeek. There’s a window in my bedroom at my vacation home at Lake Tahoe with no shades up by the ceiling so that if I wake up in the morning, I can see pine trees blanketed with snow in it and I know it snowed at night. It’s awesome. When you go outside, you can just look out into the woods and see all the trees covered in snow in stunning silence and stillness, even as snow falls; there’s no sound.
Also, I love the sight of quaking aspens and lakes that sparkle. :)
@forestGeek You took my first choice. Snow is my absolute favorite:)
Early-morning fog/mist on the surface of a still lake.
When the moon is low and HUGE like a bright Orange planet coming to collide.
Street photography in NYC, just walkin around, bright, sunny days, 135mm lens w/ polarizer and a diffusion filter; color in walls, windows, buildings and always the people, the people, the people.
Slanting pale evening sunlight on the last of the crimson leaves making everything glow pink.
I get up early and start cooking some bacon. As it gets crispy I’ve just finished preparing some diced potatoes and cooked a couple of eggs. I’ve ensured that the eggs are over well and that the potatoes are just right (salt, pepper, a bit of chopped onion and bell pepper, and just the slightest hint of cumin).
I have two kinds of hot sauce: red and green. I sprinkle the red hot sauce (not the green) on the potatoes and the green hot sauce (not the red) on the eggs. I place the bacon, the eggs and the potatoes onto a plate and drop a couple pieces of cilantro onto the plate to make it look like I’m a chef (which I’m clearly not).
I quickly make some coffee in the little 4 cup coffee maker. I put just a smidgen of sweetener and some flavored creamer into a coffee mug. Ding! The coffee is done. I pour the hot coffee into the cup which instantly dissolves the sweetener and mixes the creamer. I put exactly 3 pieces of ice into the cup to cool the coffee.
It’s at this point that my wife, rubbing her eyes, meanders sleepily down the stairs. Behind her through the window by the stairs I can see the sun rising.. burnt orange, reds, yellows, blues and purples. She was awakened by the aroma of the food and coffee but doesn’t full realize what’s happening until she opens her eyes.
It doesn’t always happen.. but on rare occasions she ever so slightly tilts her head to one side and says “Aww honey, that’s so sweet of you!”
It’s this moment.. created by nature (by complicated extension) that I enjoy most of all.
(if you’re looking for just plain nature… yeah.. I like sunrises in the mountains.)
There was a circumhorizontal arc hanging in the sky outside my window about a month ago.
I like snow but it’s ugly here.
@chyna Hell, the way my year is going I may be single soon… LOL… but to answer your question… no.. sorry. xD
My favorite “scene” usually involves more than my visual senses. A creek or waterfall in an Oregon forest, with the smell of pine, a crisp morning breeze on my cheeks and the sound of water and birds. A mere picture could never do it justice.
sunset on the water like this
mmm, nice place to kick back and just look around
Fog. Doesn’t matter what kind, doesn’t matter where. I love it. Seeing lightning over the ocean at night is also a big favorite of mine. I’ll stop here because if I don’t, I won’t be able to shut up.
Picture this: It’s spring (almost summer) in the Alps in Austria, you wake up in a room covered with wood. Every hotel room in Austria has a balcony, and you are about to find out why that is. As you open the door cold air rushes into your warm room, waking you up instantly, you slowly let your eyes adjust to the Sun that’s peeking over the mountains. Your hotel is located on a ridge, and as you look down you expect to see the neighboring village down the valley (4000 feet below). But what’s this, it’s gone! The town was swallowed by slow creeping clouds that literally crawl over the mountains and tumble down into the valley. The only sign that’s left of the town is the local church that’s struggling to keep it’s belltower above the clouds, every now and then it fails and goes under only to emerge again minutes later.
This was the most beautiful scene I have ever seen with my own two eyes, and I’m afraid I’ll never be able to top it. Since I’m a bad writer, here is a picture I found that was shot very close by where I was staying (and the same season as well).
Ps. My original answer was the way the smell of the air changes just before a Summer storm, but I’m not sure if that’s a (visual) scene.
Well, I know ice storms can be terribly damaging, but still, when the sun comes out & turns everything into crystal, it’s beautiful.
Rainbows make me smile every time I see one. I also really love to hear and see a good thunder and lightening storm.
I also love to see wild animals in their natural habitat. Years ago I used to catch the bus to work and 9 times out of 10, about half way to my destination, there would be a Kestral sat on the same post on the side of the motorway. It was quite early in the morning and I saw mant beautiful sights on that journey. The great thing about getting the bus (which I don’t have the luxury of anymore) is being able to enjoy the scenery.
@Leanne1986 I had only seen one or two rainbows in my life. Then I spent a year in England and saw three in that year. I love them too.
@Leanne1986 – Double rainbows! I’ve only seen one in my entire life thus far, on Highway A1 going north outside Brisbane. Spectacular! But they can show up anywhere. Keep an eye out! :D
@aprilsimnel Saw one of them in northern California a few years ago. Lovely.
Isn“t it amazing? I just assumed rainbows were everywhere. i’m in alberta, rainbows every summer, so while beautiful, they have become expected.
@faye It really seems to depend on your prevailing weather patterns. On the East Coast, you tend to get either a rainly day or a sunny day. In England, there was often several types of weather competing on the same day; hence more rainbows.
@Leanne1986 – I hope you do get to see one. They’re truly awesome.
