Over the past two years I have noticed more than a dozen small lipomas of various sizes (from the size of a bb to the size of a marble) develop throughout my arms, trunk, and legs. Why am I getting these, and what can I do about them besides surgery?
I take psychiatric meds including lithium, and take omega3 fish oil…could that have caused them?

my uncle had lipomas, little benign tumors. he had to have some removed surgically-off his bum was one.
I think they are hereditary. my mother used to smash them with a large and heavy book.
I don’t know but maybe it’s stress cause I keep getting more and more little bumps on my body that annoy the hell out of me. Or maybe we are a new race of humanoids growing adaptations to live on Mercury
I don’t actually know much about these. My sister may have gotten one at one point (she developed a mass in her arm that she could poke at) but nothing ever came about from it. I can ask her if it went away naturally.
The internet has some information about taking steroids and stuff to make them go away, but I think talking to your general doctor would help. He/she should know if your meds are causing them or if there’s a better way of getting rid of them besides surgery.
Also, since they are made up of fatty tissue, and I don’t mean this rudely have you gained a lot of weight over the past couple of years? Perhaps some exercise and diet change would help them get broken down?
@Iclamae
I work out a lot but I eat a lot of protein and fat.
I’ve gotten lipomas since I was a boy as well. I’ve had them removed from my forearm and my chest. They must be hereditary.
@trailsillustrated you must be thinking about ganglionic cysts, aka bible cysts, so called because they are fluid filled and can be flattened by smashing them with a heavy object like a large book. Lipomas are bening fatty tumors and can’t be squished away.
i don’t think lipomas have much to do with how much you weigh
Discuss this with your medical provider and if you don’t get a satisfactory answer, ask for a referral to a specialist. Self diagnosis is always risky.
No sorry @Iclamae , i’m pretty sure because I’m a nurse, that’s all
@faye :D No problem.
Have you talked to your doctor about it?
