I haven't been skiing for about 10 years, and no one was wearing helmets, now I hear that everyone wears helmets, is this true?

No. People who are just beginning, or who chase cliffs and avalanches, or who would feel safer with a helmet might wear one. Don't feel like you need to run out and buy one to fit in. :)
If I wore one would I not fit in?
I don't want to look like a tool...
Most of the expert skiiers and snowboarders that I know are wearing helmets now. You would not look out of place at all if you wore one.
Most average skiiers do not wear helmets though. Like she said, a lot of experts are now, but as far as intermediate/average skiiers, I would say no.
I wear a helmet when I'm boarding because I stink and falling backwards on you head hurts; I wear a helmet when I ski because I go in the terrain park. I think people will more likely think you're totally aggro wearing a helmet than a tool...unless you're on the bunny slope.
We had a family tragedy that might have been prevented had the two young men on a backcountry skiing trek been wearing helmets.
They got hit by a sudden avalanche and were both swept into trees, where they were hit on the head and knocked unconscious so couldn't dig themselves out. So I would say that worrying about how one looks seems meaningless.
Yeah, I recently started wearing a helmet. Over the past 2-3 years this trend is catching on - in the northeast, helmets have become more common than non-helmets. VT might even make it a state law soon. I think it's a really good idea, plus it keeps your head warmer!
I have been a skier for 47 years. I ski very very fast, and I got a helmet to satisfy my family, who are not skiers. I can see the use of a helmet, but I’ve never had one until now. I haven’t had a chance to wear it since I got it because we moved out of the area.
