Why do some members of Fluther keep the standard avatars?

Fluther provides several standard avatars. We are all familiar with them and when I see them I automatically think “new user”.
A couple of the stock avatars I associate with trolls who have used them in the past such as the black kitten and the skulljelly
When we have an influx of new members it can get a bit confusing seeing the same avatar going back and forth in a discussion.
Lately I have noticed several members who still use the standard newbie ones despite being here for quite a while and wonder why?
Is is because they do not know how to change it?
They do not want to bother?
Why?

Some just can’t be bothered or they may actually like that avatar.
My cat face is a Troll???!!! i would love to have an avatar that is more personal and more fun but, no, I don’t know how.
I’ve always wanted to know.
I’ve been here almost three years, and I haven’t changed mine once simply because I really like it.
@faye If you wish to change your avatar here just go into your account and click on edit under your photo. You can upload from your computer too.
yep, I know I could upload from my computer but that’s exactly what I don’t have the how of! my son would be so ashamed….
If you do a google search for “Free Avatar” several come up. If you find one you like then right click and choose “View Image” This will isolate it one one page. Then copy the URL at the top of that page and paste it into the upload bar. :)
Thanks @Dog , I’ll try. oooh, the pressure!!!
@faye and everyone new user to Fluther. This site is so wonderfully made that it doesn’t even care about the dimensions (size) of your picture, just upload any picture and it will automatically resize it. That means there are only 3 steps for you to take (You don’t even need an image editor).
> 1. Choose a picture from anywhere, the web (right click it and choose save as) or your photocamera.
> 2. On Fluther go to your account (click on your picture) and click on the edit button right underneath your avatar.
> 3. Click on: Choose file, select the picture from your hard disk, and click on upload.
Need help or don’t like the way Fluther resizes your image? Drop me a pm and I’ll sort it out for you.
@markyy Wish I could give you multiple lurve for that!
@Dog Thanks, from this day forward, I will mentally add +5 to my Lurve!
because they could never match the awesomeness of a sexy monkey that may or may not be a jedi knight.
There’s a site called avatarfarm.com. too, that has lots of stuff to choose from.
I lurved up @Markyy for y’all too. ;)
Meh, nothing’s working, sometimes i feel like my mother! Thanks @markyy for advice
WOW, see my new avatar!! lurve to@markyy
@faye AWESOME! I will now recognize you right away! (Great choice too!)
Now, would someone also teach me how to whisper?
@faye – it’s right there under the answer box.
(Style your text! strong emphasis whisper link → link. See the entire list.)
It’s true, I usually don’t notice people until I start recognizing them by avatar. For everyone that has trouble with step #2 (finding the place where you can edit your avatar) just click here www.fluther.com/settings/avatar/.
@faye use a double dash before and after the text you want to appear small. Also have a look here for the other types of styling you can use
Again, i“ve seen them there, gone to the link, just don’t have the how to, will try again, sigh
See how the word “whisper” has two dashes to either side of it? Put two dashes, just like that, around the phrase you want to whisper. That’s how.
@faye Practice in a post. Like right now when I add — to the front and back of a sentance it will show in the preview below as:
see I am whispering!!
You can use the live preview window below to see the effects of the markup on the text before answering.
Yay!! I’m proud as a six year old. thanks@laureth
I think it’s just a “settling in” thing. Still testing the waters, and aren’t bothered with an individual, unique avatar.
I’m under the assumption that almost everyone changes it after a period of time, once they really get a firm understanding of Fluther’s communal value.
Awesome job again @faye !
I just know that @markyy is crafting something brilliant!
@Dog Nope, sorry was misusing the site once again, this time I needed to make an image for the text markup page on the wiki JohnPowell started. If I have time, I will try to add a page for uploading avatars.
@markyy s’okay- a chance to drop that extra lurve. ;)
Great idea on the wiki!
I love my little green jellyfish.
I found a bit of time and put up the directions Markyy posted. It is here.
If anyone wants to edit or add anything feel free to do so. The page is public so anyone should be able to edit it.
I change mine around especially sometimes I see really funny ones that I have to have- but on here people have thought I was a man because of my avatar so I don’t change it as much
I didn’t know how either, but I think I might try it someday now that @markyy explained it so well.
Although….
Mine already does kind of look like me.
I’m glad to have my new onee-she’s doing what I love, i’d have a book and a pacifica with lime!
I have trouble with
> 0 : Find motivation to change avatar.
I can be extraordinarily lazy when I want to be.
This thread has reminded me that I haven’t seen cwilbur in a while. Anyone know what’s become of him?
