Can you help me with alpha antivirus on my husband's computer?

Asked by JLeslie (65790points) November 7th, 2009

What do we do? My husband’s computer got a pop up saying it is infected with the alpha antivirus and that he has trojans or something? He could not uninstall. He is trying a scan with our trend micro but the scan seems to be going faster than usual and is not finding anythng. I googled alpha antivirus, but am not clear what to do, because I don’t know what to trust.

Malware Bytes will remove this virus : http://www.malwarebytes.org/

I work at a tech place and that’s what we use to get rid of similar viruses. If MWB doesn’t clear it, restart the computer in safe mode and run it there.

bleeping computer is a nice blog and they say: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-alpha-antivirus

And to run under safe mode when you boot your computer press f8 repetively until a list of options will appear, click safe mode, notice: everything on the screen may increase in size because safe modes screen resolution will temporarly change to 600:800

Here are a few tips that will help keep you safe. They are super simple.

1. Use a good browser. I suggest Firefox, Chrome, or Safari.

2. Don’t open weird shit people send you in your e-mails. Think, why is my mom sending me nude pictures of the girl in the Transformers movie? People can spoof it so it looks like the email was from someone you trust. Never open a e-mail attachment unless you expect it. If it seems odd ask them before opening it.

edit :: I know this doesn’t help with the question. But it might help avoid similar ones in the future.
