Should there be an explanation when questions disappear to be "edited to be made more appropriate"?

Asked by MrItty (17416points) November 9th, 2009

Twice in the last 20 minutes, a question I answered (and got multiple GA’s on) disappeared with the ever-mysterious “This question is currently being edited to be made more appropriate” notification. Does that annoy anyone else? I have no idea what the mods found inappropriate about either question. One was about legal courtroom procedures, the other I don’t even remember already. Couldn’t there just be a quick message from the mods saying what was wrong with the question that prompted its removal?

I don’t think we need to assign more work to the mods, as long as it’s clear to the original poster what needs to be edited to get approved again, that’s good enough for me. I feel your pain though, I hate ghost Lurve!

I don’t think it should be your business to know why a user has to edit a question.

[mod says] Of course we do explain it to the person who asked the question. In this particular case, I know why the legal/courtroom procedures one was pushed back for editing. The title didn’t give any clue as to what the actual question was. “What would happen in this situation?” could apply to any number of subjects. Ideally, a reader should be able to tell what the question is (or at least is about) before clicking on it. Hopefully, they’ll edit the question and it will be back up quickly.

@erichw1504 What? Of course it should be my business to know why the mods want me to edit my question! Now I’m confused.

@Val123 No, I said it shouldn’t be other user’s business to know why someone’s question needs editing. Of course you should know why your question has to be changed.

I guess from my point of view, if I’ve commented on the question and taken active part in the discussion, it’s no longer just one person’s question. It belongs to the community of people who’ve been discussing it. It’s annoying to have that on-going discussion ripped away without any explanation as to why.

@MrItty ghost lurve sucks, and we should receive some other form of compensation for it, because many times, the question never comes back.

@Dr_C Thanks for the backup, brother!

@Psychedelic_Zebra I couldn’t care less about lurve, ghost or otherwise. My issue is with the annoyance of an active discussion disappearing.
