We are having a beard contest at work, and I’ve been growing my beard out for about a week. Today my beard has been incredibly itchy. How can I get relief?
(Shaving is not an option)

Use conditioner on it in the shower. Don’t use hot water to wash your face- use lukewarm.
ewwww get the contest over then shave it-hope the prize is really good
MAN UP, BRO. IF THE BEARD’S TOO ITCHY, YOU’RE TOO WOMANLY.
As a man with a beard, I can tell you from experience that the itching will go away and be replaced with awesomeness.
It should only be itchy for a week or so until it starts cleaning itself. If you shampoo or condition it in between that time it will mess up the cycle. Shampooing and conditioning will temporarily get rid of the itchiness.
It’s just like your pubic hair almost.
Exfoliate with an apricot scrub; I use that St. Ives stuff, that’s pretty mild and has moisturizers combined with the gentle abrasion from the ground apricots…then moisturize with non-alcohol based, non-petrolatum based conditioner or lotion.
crabs? jkjk buttt this is what you get no-shave novemberians if that’s a word
It’ll go away eventually.
Just wait until it’s a little longer. Then it won’t itch. This is part of manhood. But I know what you mean. It is truly awful. If you think this sucks, don’t shave your balls.
I feel your pain. And yes, that pic is seconds old. The pain will go away. The nose tickles are what kill me.
And I need to shave. I just got new clippers.
You need to Chuck Norris up a little.
Use Selsiun Blue or Head n Shoulders on it. Let it sit on the beard for a good 10 mins in the shower so it soaks in. Then rinse and try not to scratch.
@filmfann Man, Chuck Norris is nothing but beard. That is one hairy guy.
I’m guessing you are doing No-Shave-November, mine has been itching too. I just scratch it and mine went away a couple of days ago.
@Kraigmo beat me to it. My ex used to use Head and Shoulders when his beard of long-standing used to itch. However, I suspect a large part of the itching is because you haven’t grown your beard before. That sort of itching will pass with time.
@Darwin It itches every time you grow a new beard.
Did you check for fleas or other parasites?
@oratio – I know, but the OP doesn’t seem to, so most likely he has never grown one before. And if it itches enough he might not ever do it again.
Maybe you can find some relief in that the rest of the guys itch too. For those who really have beard growing talent, it will itch like hell.
I have grown a beard before, and I pushed through the itchy stage. Today it is extremely itchy and I’m looking for alternatives to “just man up and take it.”
Some work buddies are doing whiskerino this year, so we thought we’d have our own mini-contest to go along with it.
@Samurai I am going to regret asking this, but you let your pubic hair clean itself?
I’m going to regret asking this, but @Samurai what do you clean?
@aphilotus Truer words were never spoken.
In all seriousness, it just takes a while before the beard becomes less itchy. I’d expect it’s due to the length of the hair. Mine always goes away after about 9 or 10 days without shaving.
@Sarcasm: I’m not so sure anymore, I don’t remember the last time I took a shower or brushed my teeth.

@Supacase I sure don’t clean them myself.
Rub it with a kleenex! you don’t get a rash from scratching but it relieves the itch, and probably helps with oil build up. though probably not as practical later on in the beard stage, but for those first few weeks of death itch it works wonders.
