I’ve seen various articles on the internet telling me that banana skin over verrucas is an effective cure. Does this work?

I know for a fact it works on other types of warts, so why not? My son and my husband each had a wart on one finger. I’d read about the banana peel “cure,” and we decided to give it a try. Each night, I’d put a piece of banana peel over the wart and wrap it in surgical tape to keep it in place. In the morning, I’d take the banana peel off. We did that for a few weeks and for both my husband and son, the warts gradually disappeared. Even after only a couple of days, we could see a difference in the warts. Neither of them had any pain or discomfort during this whole process. This was months ago, and still no sign of warts coming back.
My husband had the wart on his finger for years, and using over-the-counter wart treatments had never worked. My son, who was five at the time, had his wart for a few months before we tried the banana thing. There’s no reason not to give it a try. If it doesn’t work for you, you could try some medication or see a doctor.
Thanks. I’ll give it a try. And I won’t wear any sandals for a long time! :)
It feels a bit uncomfortable…
There’s research that came out a few years ago showing that occlusion with duct tape is an effective wart treatment. They theorize that the irritation of being sealed off stimulates the immune system.
So I’m wondering if it’s the surgical tape rather than the banana skin that’s doing the heavy lifting.
I guess it’s possible, but when I was reading up on using the banana peels, not everyone used surgical tape. Some people claimed that rubbing the banana peel on the wart for several seconds a few times a day also did the trick.
Now I almost wish we’d get some more warts in this house so I can do an experiment! A different treatment on each wart. Time to go looking for some toads. ;)
