Why do our ears turn red sometimes?

Asked by judochop (16124points) November 10th, 2009

My right ear is red right now and I’ve noticed this before off and on, not frequently but a few times a year. I have heard that it means someone is talking about you however I think it means I might have an ear infection. What do you think is going on when your ear turns red?

You have good blood flow.

I don’t think you have an ear infection unless you’re experiencing other symptoms of an ear infection.

My ears turn red sometimes too; it happens to pretty much everyone. It’s related to blushing. Looks like a certain Fluther user answered it here: http://askville.amazon.com/ears-turn-red-hot-apparent-reason/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=4107810

Personally I’ve never understood why you turn red when you’re embarrassed; that only makes you even more embarrassed!

Stop looking in the mirror.

Yes ma’am.

You don’t always have to see them, though. Often, it’s when my ears feel hot and then I can tell that they’re red.

@DominicX Hey where do you see “my ears feel hot” in the question/details?~

Blondesjon's avatar

Because we have just asked a rather matronly woman when she was due and she has answered with, “What are you talking about?”

They feel like they’re hot when I’m either really embarrassed or in extremely high dudgeon, but one would barely notice they’re red because I am a tan-coloured person. And I wear my hair over my ears most of the time.
