If you know that you've built up static electricity on your body that will discharge on the first thing you touch, do you try to discharge it on your nearest loved one so as not to waste the shock?

This time of year I will ALWAYS end up with static electricity when I get out of the car. At those times my husband keeps avoiding me for some reason. Spoil sport! I’m just trying to SHARE!

I do that all the time.
The only bad timing is when you forget and they kiss you first.
Yet another insight into the brain that is @Val123
We keep score as to who shocks who. You get +1 for shocking when the other one knows it’s coming, +2 for when they are unaware and +5 if you can actually see the shock!
Our car is especially bad for static build-up. Unfortunately, I always go to close the door absent-mindedly and get a huge zap! Next time, I try to have the presence of mind to poke my husband!
no, I turn out the lights and try and touch something metal and see if the shock is visible.
Edit: misread question
Yup, zapping people is fun.
I get so used to getting shocked from getting out of the car that when I shut the door, I touch the glass.
Just be careful to not get back in your car when your gas tank is filling up. The static build up can start a fire It’s rare but it can happen. (Unlike your cell phone, which doesn’t do that.)
No because when people do that to me I want to punch them. (I’m boring that way)
@tedibear39 That’s not as dangerous as smoking a cigarette while filling up, and trust me, I’ve seen people do this with my own eyes.
My dad used to work in a hotel and the maids wore nylon uniforms, he took great delight in zapping them on the butt whenever he got the chance
@erichw1504 – I’ve seen it too and it scares the patootie out of me!
@SpatzieLover it was, but why do you say that? It would still be funny today.. although being sued probably wouldn’t I suppose.
@Chrissi85 Because it’s now known as sexual harassment.
@SpatzieLover I’m female and I’d find it pretty funny… but then people aren’t so good at the whole ‘lightening up’ thing these days
@Chrissi85 No, now your dad would find a pole up there instead of fun by shocking ;)
No, that hurts <party pooper>
<rubs feet into carpet for a minute>
Hey @Val123 c’mon over here!
This reminded me of my middle school biology teacher.
She had three daughters evenly spaced in age and height. She also had old wiring in her home, so the metalic components for her light switches were fairly exposed. When the three were gullible, she would have them form a line, hands on the sister ahead, and then shuffle around the table in the carpeted dining room, pretending they were a train (with the lights off.) Eventually, she would have them stop, and the leader of the group would reach towards the light switch. Their combined static electricity caused the lights to flare up for an instant. :D
Boy, am I pleasantly surprised! I seriously thought this would get modded big time! But I even got 5 GQ’s!
@Val123 They were as shocked as when you discharge by touching another person, so pretty harmless.
LOL! I wuv you @Val123!
@SpatzieLover We’ll work together. I’ll catch her… But only as long as you warn me so I can release her just before you shock her! I don’t wanna get stuck in that brouhaha!
I carry a lightning rod. Works for the dogs which might attack as well. Just kidding. Go green @Val123, you are a walking renewable energy life form. The planet says thank you.
@mattbrowne Is somebody supposed to be paying me for this? Should I call the utility company?
@Val123 – Do you have a smart grid in Kansas already using digital technology?
The idea behind the “smart grid” is to have devices that plug into your outlet and you would plug your appliance into this device. These devices would communicate and report to the electric companies at what time your appliance used energy and how much and use that to charge you more for electricity that you use during peak hours.
So you see they would be paying you. To maximize your revenue you should only get out of your car during peak hours and when fully charged connect to the smart grid. I know you are a hot lady, so one single discharge is worth several kWh. You gonna be rich!

@Val123 – See, we can have a lot of fun on Fluther, can’t we?
@mattbrowne Oh yeah! I love it! Reminds me of wis.dm. (and I’m meeting certain people and thinking….she’s just like Lilly! Or Liz! Or whomever.) I just hosed up in the initial migration. Have no one to blame but myself.
@Val123 Oh, but some of us are UNIQUE! Don’t tell me I’m not UNIQUE!
@avvooooooo Unique up on it! Know how to catch a tame Flutherer?
@avvooooooo Yeth I did! BTW, your name always makes me think of a dog howling. I want to put you in the pound. Then go out of town.
@Val123 Surely you wouldn’t put me in the pound! :(
aw crap. i hate it when you do that. here. have some 3 week old lasagna for a treat. it’s ok. dogs can digest mold.
Are you trying to make me frow up?
@haloooooooooooooooooooo yes! I am evil!
See, the mods are really cool about the last 10 answers.
Lol, but its @Val123‘s question. She drove it off the tracks, we’re just along for the ride!
Now shuddup @mattbrowne & @rangerr or we won’t get any ice cream when we get where we’re goin’! @Val123 doesn’t like to hear comments on her drivin’! ;D
WOULD YA’LL SHUT UP!! I’M TRYING TO CONCENTRATE!
@mattbrowne Yes, I see. Don’t pop off the tracks right off the bat…...I’ll learn!
Boy, we sure did get off track, didn’t we! Did I really start it?
Gotta go!
Enjoy the electricity discharges!
