Had the recession occurred 20 years and 1 day ago, do you think the Berlin wall still would have fallen?, With the Soviet Union not far behind it.
This popped into my head today after reading a report that China has been relatively unaffected by the recession. And this got me thinkin, Since in communism no one owns any property, this recession would have barely touched Communist countries, with the exception of trade. With this recession highlighting the defects of capitalism had it happened 20 years ago or so, would the Berlin wall have come down, and the change in central Europe and Russia been ushered in?

That’s some deep thinking you got there. Real deep.
Anywho, I think it would still have come down because of stuff?!?!? :|
Yeah I can’t help it sometimes, I am a political science major.
Come on where are all you opinionated political nerds at tonight.
i am not intellectual enough to answer this question. sorry!
good points, but given the fact that we’ve seen exports from china become more toxic / dangerous is it really realistic to take this “lack of financial decline” in china to heart, i can’t remember anytime in my life where there have been so many recalls and warnings about imports from asia. so i question the validity of the information.
Well I just figured since the banks uber failed and the real estate market is what crashed along with credit, the communist countries wouldn’t have suffered from these issues since no one owned their homes anyways, or had loans for businesses etc.
China’s only selectively Communist. Keep that in mind. They do have a private sector, which is not possible under true communism.
Yeah, but that kind of further proves my point, since china is selectively communist it has capitalist elements, and even with this being true it avoided the recession.
@LKidKyle1985 Good points and a good question. I’d like to think “Wir sind das volk!” would have been chanted anyway. The berlin wall came down cause of the cracks in the system and peoples will.
Yes. The people in East Germany wanted change. Real change. Yes. “Wir sind das Volk!”
