Go to the doctor!

This does sound serious. You need to talk to you OB-GYN.

I don’t want to alarm you too much, but go see the doctor. I wish I had more insight to share with you, but I do remember the exact same question (and circumstances) has been asked before, you can find it by clicking here. I hope reading that helps convince you to get some professional help.

What has your doctor said about this? Fluther is not a substitute for a doctor. If you can’t afford follow-up care, get to a Planned Parenthood… now.

Yes, go see a doctor. this isn’t right

ChrisJrMomma's avatar

The doctor told me there was nothing wrong. I went two weeks ago to the er and they said it was normal.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

uh…honey, I’d go to a different doctor. You should be settled in to a normal cycle by now.

My sister bled for six months too but hers was light. i thought it was normal until it continued to get heavier.

I would see a doctor. Are you breastfeeding? Are they like normal periods?

J0E's avatar

This is why we have doctors. Stop wasting your time asking us and go see one.

ChrisJrMomma's avatar

i stopped breastfeeding after eight weeks. it is twice as bad as my normal periods.

I will go back to the doctor but what can i do for now? there is a nor easter outside and the streets are flooded.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

ahh, geez….well, if you can’t get out, you’re safer there then. But at the first opportunity, get to a doctor. If this keeps up, you’ll become anemic & there MAY be something wrong up there. Don’t take any chances here. Try to get there before the weekend.

ChrisJrMomma's avatar

The news is talking about it being over by tommorrow but the flooded streets could last for days after. I will try to get out as soon as i can.

@ChrisJrMomma Don’t get too afraid, call your doctor over the phone and ask him/her what he/she recommends. Sometimes I get the feeling doctors tend to send you away and wait until you come back one or two times to separate the overreacting hypochondriacs from the real patients.

Thanks Guys. I will go back. I have to feed my son now so any more info i will check up on later.

Don’t let them push you out of the office with an “oh, you’re fine.” Demand that the run some tests or, at the very least, explain to you why this is happening and how it can be considered normal. Don’t leave until you are satisfied. They are getting paid to treat you, not blow you off.

Do not forget to have your NEW doctor check your iron levels when you go in.

I had a friend that was continually told by her doctor that her bleeding was normal.
She even went to the hospital to have the ER check her out.
She got the same answer.
Soon after she came to visit me. She was bleeding badly.
I brought her to my hospital. Turned out she had an ectopic pregnancy and here fallopian tube had ruptured. They figured this out like in no time.
If she would have just listed to her primary doctor and the morons at the
Chula Vista, CA Hospital. She could have died.

Moral of the story. Get a second and even a third opinion.

Like everyone has said – make an appointment with a new OB/GYN. There are medications that they can put you on to help regulate your cycles. As a new Mom you must be so tired from that anyway, but on top of the irregular bleeding, you must be exhausted. A new doctor will help you and run the right tests and hopefully you will start to feel better all around!

How heavy is heavy? How many pads or tampons are you soaking a day? Are you using a birth control method?

gemiwing's avatar

Why haven’t they put you on birth control yet? It’s so simple and it can help reset your body’s clock. So add me to the Second Opinion pile.

MagsRags's avatar

@gemiwing she hasn’t said that she’n not on birth control – that’s one of the reasons I asked, since some contraceptives can cause irregular bleeding. Undiagnosed pregnancy is a concern too, although I’m sure they did a pregnancy test when she was seen in the ER 2 weeks ago. They probably checked for anemia too.

gemiwing's avatar

@MagsRags Good point. Yet if they had put her on some then that would lead me to believe that she wouldn’t seem to feel so lost and confused. Also they told her it wasn’t a big deal- so that led me to think that they hadn’t prescribed anything yet.

I think she should also get a hormone panel and blood sugar. Could be PCOS.

MagsRags's avatar

PCOS would not be near the top of my list of possible causes, in a woman who recently had a baby. I’d be thinking about a pelvic ultrasound to make sure she doesn’t have some retained placenta, if PP bleeding never completely resolved.

Darwin's avatar

I had the same problem some years ago. It took me three doctors to find one who actually listened and thought about potential causes and then figured out what was going on.

Go back to your doctor, or ask your friends if they have an OB/GYN they really like, and go there. Excessive bleeding really isn’t normal, although the cause could be relatively benign. The anemia that results can create a big problem, too.
