What could a Research Manager's Key Result Areas be?

Asked by Varna (14points) November 14th, 2009

Hi,

I work for a non profit organization. We focus on creating educational content for children between the age of 3 and 6 in developing countries. I manage all their research. We’ve recently moved into a business structure. As part of this – we’ve been asked to define our Key Result Areas for performance appraisals. The only direction given was that the KRAs need to be quantifiable and specific. My designation is ‘Research Manager’ – I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas about what KRAs a research manager could have?

From a Six Sigma perspective, the Key Results Areas for a research in any organization is to drive data based decision making. Six Sigma uses DMAIC methodology—Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control. I would look at your Key Results from exactly that perspective. As Research Manager, how does your work help define future needs, provide measurement and metrics for projects, analyze existing programs, provide input for improvement of current programs, and develop or monitor control opportunities?
