Do you ever feel that you 'fence sit' too much?

Asked by faye (17857points) November 18th, 2009

I try to see both points of view so much that I wonder if it’s detrimental to Me. I feel guilty some here if I want to do an eyeroll. And in real life, woah!!

No… just the opposite. I think one of the major societal problems we have today is people being too black-and-white about things, simplifying complex issues into childish slogans and and pithy sayings. Eventually, an issue demands a decision, on which you’ll likely need to pick a side. But being in a hurry to do that is not a good thing IMO, and even when you do, many issues are something like 60% one way and 40% another. Very very few issues are entirely one way or entirely the other.

Don’t get caught up in the rabble-rousing or rushes to judgment. Keep on thinkin’ for yourself, and considering things thoughtfully…:-)

I agree with @derekfnord – I find there are very few issues confronting me and the world actually that have answers of black or white. To commit to a hard line and stick to it at all costs is risky business.

I don’t think it’s a problem, as long as you aren’t using it as an excuse to procrastinate… or never come to a conclusion.

Well, I do have these wooden splinters in my keester, so maybe I should be sitting on a different kind of fence.

@Psychedelic_Zebra or wear bicycle shorts while you do! They have those padded seats.

No, if anything I should probably fence-sit more than I do!
