How can i track traffic to my .mac website? (if there is any :P )

Asked by row4food (3049points) February 14th, 2008

just out of curiosity, how can i see how many people have visited my very small personal website? link (work in progress)

at work we use google analytics for our e-commerce sites…how different is this, since i’m not using pay-per-click or doing anything for search engine optimization? (i’m not really on the technical, background end of the sites…i handle mostly the graphics, but i’d like to learn more of course)

There’s no reason why you can’t use Google Analytics on your personal site as well. It’s free and easy to use. You just need to create an account and paste a snippet of JavaScript on every page of your site (you should be able to do this just once in your .Mac template).

If you want something a little bit slicker, you can use Mint, but it costs $30.

I recommend StatCounter , it’s free unless you want a larger log size, and can be implemented invisibly. You put a given code on every page, and StatCounter will be able to give you details on each visit, such as referring address, pages visited (and at what time), IP address (and therefore estimated location) and system stats like OS, screen resolution and browser.
