What personality traits do you associate with Scorpios? (Belief in astrology not required to answer.)

Jealousy, a temper, passionate, empathetic at times… coming from a Scorpio. I don’t believe in the stuff, but some of the general “traits” fit with my personality.

None, since astrology is nonsense.

I understand they’re supposed to be very sexual and passionate people.

I got my horoscope done once on a lark at uni (i.e. the Chemical Engineering major dude downstairs from me was into it and did charts and tarot and stuff). I’m a Cancer with an Aries moon and Scorpio rising, and I have no idea what that means.

Is the perspective that astrology is a preposterous, stereotype-encouraging load of medieval bullshit welcome too?

@Fyrius Sure. Here’s where I’m coming from with this: I’m a Scorpio. I don’t believe in astrology, but I have some friends who do. So, when I hear comments such as “Oh, you’re a Scorpio? I knew it!”, I’m just curious what connections they may be making. Basically, I just take it as a fun opportunity to say something witty, but if I had more context, that would be cool too. So, help a non-astrologically inclined brother out, yo!

Well, sorry. I’m no expert in this tradition, for obvious reasons, so Wikipedia is all I have to offer.
Incidentally, I think you’ll find it’s not nearly always justified to assume jellies have read the Wikipedia article on whatever they’re asking.

I am an Aries, and we Aries do not believe in Astrology, or differences in people or behavior related to their Zodiac-sign.

Sexual and not to be trusted. Can hide their feelings and hurt you when you least expect it. Even though I don’t “officially” believe in astrology, I have had 2 scorpio girlfriends (plus my mother is a Scorpio) and have generally found them to be untrustworthy and devious. I obviously don’t know anything about my parents’ nocturnal activities, but the two scorpios I had (especially the second one) were by far the best sex, way better than anyone else before or since. And both used me in some way or other, and lied a lot. And come to think of it, were extremely jealous, though I never had anything to hide.

I have not really seen such coincidences with other signs. But all Scorpios I know (and especially those two girls I dated) seem to be textbook material.

All I know about birth signs… is that I am a scorpio. I dont know what it means, and I have never read a whatchacallit. But… I like it because it kinda sounds like scorpion.

@mowens – That’s because Scorpio means scorpion. It is the name of a set of stars that the ancients thought formed a scorpion in the sky.

My father, my daughter’s father and a former and particularly significant lover are all Scorpios, all quite different in nature.

I don’t really follow this sort of thing. But, I am a Scorpio, so I know a little bit…

The person that a Scorpio respects and holds close to them is treated with amazing kindness, loyalty and generosity. On the outside, a Scorpio has great secretiveness and mystery. This magnetically draws people to them. They are known to be controlling and too ambitious but only because they need control for this makes them feel safe.

I don’t know how this meshes with what astrology says about this sign. but I have a few friends and relatives who are Scorpio and it’s weird to see things some of them have in common. Most of the scorpios I have known have larger-than-life personalities and are very assertive, to the point of walking all over other people. They are temperamental and it’s often hard to tell what changed their mood. They can be manipulative, always trying to have the upper hand in a situation. They are loyal, but often hurt those around them.
