On the iPhone, you can re-download apps you've purchased. So why can't you re-download music you've purchased?

They have your purchase on record, so they know you’ve already paid for it.
Surely they could implement a failsafe to prevent piracy.

Backup your iTunes music regularly if you didn’t know this.
