financial profile: single vs. married

Asked by surlygirl (363points) February 15th, 2008

does your financial profile look better to lenders if you submit applications as a single person with good credit and a moderate income or is your profile better submitted as a couple with a higher income even though one person has bad credit?

If you’re married then it doesn’t matter-both of your credit scores are factored together (at least in CA). In a recent mortgage re-fi, I experienced the same issue-my wife who doesn’t have an income, had her score factored in with mine in the process. Thankfully we both have great credit.
