Would it be wise for me to buy a Xbox360?

I use to own a Xbox360 along side my Wii and PS3, but it bricked on me AFTER the warranty expired. I could of tried to fix it myself, but one of the tabs to open it was stripped. Making it impossible to open and fix. So I said screw it, sold all my 360 games (Except Dead Rising. One of my favorite games. Shame I can’t play it,) became a Sony fanboy and basically gave up on the 360 system.
Now recently, I’ve been kind of thinking about it. I plan on getting a career in the video game industry. Regardless of what I specifically go into, it probably would be wise to have all three of the major systems. So the basic pros and cons are:
Pros:
-Whole new selection of games available to me.
-Career aid.
-I can buy any future exclusives that come out that catch my eye.
Cons:
-$300. Ouch.
-There are maybe only three or so game exclusive to the 360 that I’m really interested in at the moment. Everything else has a PS3 port.
-I remember reading back in August that the 360 has a 55% failure rate (red ring/brick.) I usually properly vent my machines, and I don’t know if that figure is false or outdated, but that number scares me.
Just curious what your opinions would be on the situation.

If you want it, and can afford it, then get it. I would look at a refurb though and get the extra warranty just because of the RRoD
I thought the 360 had a 5 year warranty. It’s been exactly 4 years since it came out.
Mine got the RRoD and I fixed it. After that, it has worked perfectly. I would say get it because of the awesome online play and the console exclusives like Halo.
No they extended the 1 year warranty when the RRoD issues came out. but not 5 years, thats agges.
Wait for a year or so until they make the one that tracks your movements.
I love the game selection on the xbox 360. Its a powerful machine with great third party backing in terms of media selection. But… The one that I have is loud as hell which really screws up the gaming experience, sometimes freezes up and always keeps me on edge about it bricking (red ring of death). I have never had a system that was more like a ticking time bomb then a kick @$$ entertainment machine. I am tired of paying a monthly subscription for the xbox live after paying the 300 dollars for the machine and I only really play like 3 games. I kinda wish i could have invested in a PS3. Blue ray, quiet machine, the playstation “feel” :-) Plus my xbox ended up melting one of my games!! so mad!.
I don’t understand how having an xbox 360 is going to be a career aid. Unless you are developing those xbox live community games and need a system to test on.
Buy an xbox 360 if you have the money and want to play it, but don’t use the excuse that it’s going to make you a game designer.
