I'm trying to find a certain shoe and am unsuccessful...

Asked by bright_eyes00 (1343points) November 22nd, 2009

I have seen them before but am having no luck in locating them now that I actually want one. Its a loafer type/flat type shoe that is black with a kind of material on the outside that is not canvas but softer and thicker. I have seen them with plaid on the inside and they are usually square toe-d. I have big feet too so shopping at payless or shoe stores has been unsuccessful, if you have an online shoe store that would be more ideal. Any ideas??

There is a store that sells something like that in Marion Illinois, do you have a picture?

@DrBill no picture…cant find it online or in stores, I’m not sure what it would be called but I swear I have seen them before…:(

Could the shoe have been of corduroy or boiled wool? The first image that came to my mind are of slews of maryjane/monstrap style shoes like that in all sorts of outer materials with the plaid flannel lining. I second zappos.com, I’ve shopped them for years because of the free shipping which is great to order two sizes of a shoe at a time and pick the right fit or to try a bunch of shoes at a time and then narrow down the choice once you see them up close.

@hungryhungryhortence @sndfreQ MWHAHAHA!!!! I found it on zappos.com. Here not exactly the ones I wanted but the only difference is the coloring. Thank you all very much!

@bright_eyes00: right on! Did you enter a search for “clogs”? Also look at shoebuy.com, similar to zappos but sometimes they’ll have colors and sizes of a style zappos doesn’t and the prices are very close. In fact, I recall shoebuy has matched zappos price for me in the past. Good luck and have fun shopping.

NICE! Merrell makes good shoes! I like that brand and Keen shoes. Once in a blue moon I’ll also look up Børn brand shoes and Earth brand shoes too.

@sndfreQ What kind of shoe would you recommend for a casual yet nicer dress wear? I’m tired of skater shoes. Thats why I was goign to get the mule. yea or nay??

I think for comfortable, day-to-day, you’re fine with that style. If you’re looking for a slightly more versatile shoe, say for meetings or doing field reporting, you may want a more athletic, weather-resistant style.

I have wide (and flat) feet, so for my money, I’ve been really satisfied with the Keen footwear:

They have a pretty wide selection on the site and mule-style and others. Plus for me, I’m kinda one of those “off the beaten path” types that don’t subscribe to big name (Nike, Adidas, etc.), with one exception-New Balance (for athletic wear).

@sndfreQ I really like the keen design…they are pretty nice. Thanks for the advice. :)
