What do the people who created fluther get from fluther?

I see no adverts and I can be quite cynical, so what exactly was the reasoning behind the creation of fluther. Are we being mind probed by big brother, or are we actually being encouraged not to be sepratist and spread ideas and thoughts to forever banish ignorance?

Me thinks I might get moderated!......
Well…...I don’t know. I just assumed that they wanted a QnA site that’s better than all the other ones, so they created one. I always thought they just made it to use and “tap the collective”.
Big Brother? Don’t you mean the CIA?
Satisfaction of a job well done! AND lot’s ‘o Lurve :)
If it were me, I’d be doing it for the money. But since there’s no money involved, I’d like to know what income they live on.
Advertisements are not visible to people signed in, but they are if you’re not.
Fluther is a place for people to ask questions, get answers and give input. Other Q&A sites tend to be filled with crap, to say the least. Fluther prides itself in being a community, and close-knit at that. Even if you debate and disagree with people here, you still appreciate the input. People here care.
Who wouldn’t want to be part of a community where kindness, intelligence, and honestly are key?
@chelseababyy
Does this community include the people who created fluther?
Are they the moderators?
Are they mistery logger-inners?
I believe they get a piece of our souls in exchange for every lurve point. You should read the Terms and Conditions page again, carefully.
@aphilotus
Shit, I never read it!..........
But then again, maybe the devil really is Liz Hurley
I’m pretty sure Ben and Andrew can get laid at any jellyfish bar in the world, now.
@Pazza Yeah. Ben and Andrew are in the community, you’ll see them contribute!
There are moderators, yes. And they’re awesome!
What do you mean by mystery logger-inners?
@chelseababyy—I think that would be like, “passers-by” so, like, “loggers-in.” I think.
@avvooooooo Thank you :D
@Val123 As for people like that, I mean they’re all over, but honestly I think a majority of people who come here and see what Fluther has to offer, stick around. I know sometimes I take a break from Fluther just to get back to everyday things, however I do always come back. There are so many people here that have so many things to offer. People from all shapes and sizes, cultures, religions, beliefs, etc.
@Val123, @chelseababyy
I just mean’t if they log in but no one knows they’re the fluther creators, log in under an alias so to speak.
Here is an interesting interview with Ben on YouTube.
@Pazza We’re told that we can have alternate accounts that we can ask questions that we don’t want associated with our main account (for example, “What’s this burning sensation?”) but I don’t think for most fluther interactions that Ben or Andrew relies on an alternate account.
Ben & Andrew gave themselves awards haha, how self indulgent.
Question: do you think they have sneaky awards on they can achieve?
Just noticed the founder banner cool bastard…...(want 1)
Suplimental: Andrew looks like the alter ego off me myself and Irene…..well on his profile anyhoo….
@jonsblond : OOOooooo what happened to Eric????
@avvooooooo
So what your saying is, Ben is Eric, no hang on, Andrew is Eric, no thats not right either, ah got it Andrew is Ben!.....
@Pazza I don’t know the complete history. I’ve only been here since last December. Hopefully someone else can answer that for you. I believe he is busy with other things, but don’t quote me on that. :)
@Pazza There are some people who have multiple accounts so they can answer/ask questions they wouldn’t normally ask on their main account. Not sure if Ben and Andrew do though.
@avvooooooo, @chelseababyy
So technicaly you could all be Ben and Andrew, man that would be some serious split personality crisis!.....
That reminds me, I must go and see about that red patch on my nether regions…...
@Pazza I think you’ll fit right in. :D
@jonsblond
Good video and finally a clear answer for the naive people who think that this isn’t a business that makes money.
not intended at you Pazza :)
@SeventhSense I think that was the crux of the question. Mainly, how do they make their money off of the site? Wisdm had the ads, so it was obvious. It’s not obvious here…
@Pazza Yep! But… I’m not THAT awesome :\
@Val123 Log out of your account, and you’ll see the ads – it’s just us special people who choose to become jellies that don’t see the ads everywhere!
@Val123
Somehow with Google.. and ads..although i don’t see the Amazon ads anymore. Before there would have been an Amazon ad for a specific Book/video geared towards the questions and answers..i.E.: What’s up with Matinee Idols?, Ad: Billy Idol etc.
@sdeutsch Well, thats a tad self defeating, isn’t it??
I don’t understand it, but it seems there are a lot of lurkers—people just reading but not participating in any other way. No offense meant to anyone, but if I weren’t writing here, I wouldn’t be reading anything. I’m only here for the interaction. That’s what stimulates my mind. Passive reading just doesn’t do it for me.
So if there are enough non-member lurkers to generate significant ad revenue, I’d be very surprised. But then, I have no idea who is out there or what they are doing. I also have zero clue about internet content business models. I mean, if I knew about how to make money, I sure wouldn’t be here.
[mod says] Those who’ve said there are ads on the site are correct. Many people ask a question on google, and if the question has been asked on Fluther, they get directed here (and see the ads). They don’t have to create an account to read the questions and answers, just to actually participate. Some people are intrigued, and will spend a while just lurking before they sign up, and they’ll continue to see the ads. So yes, there is definitely money involved. Enough so that several prominent investors recently put $600,000.00 into the company. :)
The founders are members and the moderators are pulled directly from our community, so they are all members, too.
Shit I always get twichy when the manager comes in!.........
As it should be! <cracks whip>
@Pazza—BTW…your paranoia is a medical condition called “The Principal Just Walked Into The Classroom And You Feel Guilty Even Though You Ain’t Doing Nothing Wrong Except Using Bad Grammar” syndrome, also known as TPJWITCAYFGETYADNWEUBG (for short) syndrome. They have a drug for that.
@Val123
I know, I know, I went to the doctor the other day, and told him I sometimes get anxious when in a group and that this makes me down.
He said, you’ve got social anxiety disorder or SAD for short.
I said ‘please doc give it to me straight, how long have I got left’
He said ‘don’t worry, I’ve got some meds for ya! Here take this Ritalin!!!!! MWahaha MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH….....’
Ahhhhh, Ritalin, sayour of the mind.
I do love that word. MED’s
Did you know shy is a mental disorder now….. SHY!
Shy?? Fer real! An I s’pose they have a $200 drug to “cure” it.
I think one of the founders’ big benefits is knowing that they are behind something so cool. That gets you up in the morning—happily. Great work!
