1. What is born each night and dies each dawn?
2. What flickers red and warm like a flame, yet is not a flame?
Don’t cheat and look them up, and don’t answer if you already know.

ill has at a guess
1. sleep
2. blood
@wenn One out of two ain’t bad. ;)
I’m going to guess, for #1, that it’s the moon.
Or possibly the night sky.
1. Dreams
2. If the answer really is blood, I think the question is flawed. Blood doesn’t flicker.
@skfinkel: I cheated and peeked and hated both answers. Only in operas…...
But then, what is like ice but burns?
I know the answers but I’m not telling.
I looked them up too, pfft. Operas are not for me.
I know blood is right. Turandot is one of my two favorite operas (the other being Tales of Hoffmann) and I remember blood is the answer to one of the (is it three?) riddles. I don’t remember what the answer is to the night and dawn question though. I’d have probably guessed the same as @wenn and say sleep (being that Nessun Dorma means “everybody sleeps”), but you said only one of the two was right. Hmm. I’ll have to think more about it and try to answer. Of course, I might decide to cheat.
@Astrochuck – There are indeed three riddles. The third one is the one about ice. And yes, only one of the two is right.
Oh, duh! Of course. That’s “What is like ice but burns?” Turandot being the answer. I know that. But I’ll be damned if I can remember the answer to the other though. Somebody give be a hint or I’m going to have to cheat.
@AstroChuck – You could go back an reread the myth of Pandora and the box.
Never mind. I ended up cheating. There goes my head.
The third question was, “What is like ice but burns?” but relates more to the opera itself, so I didn’t include it.
Answers tomorrow. (Monday)
