How would you approach meeting someone you like in person for the first time?
Known each other for a few months, met online. Stay with them? Stay somewhere else? How long is too long? What advice would you give in this situation?

How long have you known them? In what manner have you known them? Just on the internet? We need more information.
Neutral ground is good. Meet for coffee or something.
My husband and I met online about 14 years ago. We talked endlessly for a year or so then decided to meet in person. I flew to Australia (since it was winter back there and warm and sunny here). When I came up out of customs in Sydney airport I saw him standing there with a rose, we went into each others arms. It felt like home immediately.
I would have a hotel room booked and I think when you actually come face to face, you will know what you want to do.
I see what @The_Compassionate_Heretic just said and I am basing my answer on the premise that you live some distance apart and would be meeting after a plane trip to get there so have to have a place to stay.
I would meet for coffee and/or dinner. And I would have my own hotel room.
I second what @faye said. Line up your own place to stay, and meet for a date of some kind. If the two of you end up staying together, you can always leave the hotel. Better to be prepared though.
I would shoot for meeting at a coffee shop kinda place…. and if things work from there, you can ALWAYS get a hotel at the last minute (assuming you’re over 18).

@rooeytoo Awwww. There’s nothing like an airport hug. Honestly. :’)
@faye & @deni – we have just had our 11th year together in the flesh anniversary and I do still like him, it’s pretty much a new record for me, hehehehe.
Preferably moving in a direction that closes the gap between you both.
Probably stay in a hotel and make the first meeting for a weekend only.
