Does anyone else take ambien then fluther until you're tired?

Asked by Judi (40025points) November 23rd, 2009

I have noticed that if I take Ambien to go to sleep, and then fluther until it kicks in, my screen starts looking curved, and moves a little bit. Does anyone else have this experience?
I just realized that I probably shouldn’t have taken it since my daughter could go into labor at any minuet and I might get the call!

After taking Ambien I have noticed things will move or become 3d. As an example I have a realistic painting of butterflies by my bed. One night after having insomnia for a week I took an ambien. As I stared at the painting the butterflies came to life and quivered a bit.

I would like to know what the mechanism is behind the visual distortion.

It’s like the words are being typed on soft cotton wool. sometimes the letters are deeper than others, and sometimes they are higher. The page is 3D

Yes- 3D is a perfect description.

@Dog; Have you seen “It’s Tough to Be a Bug” at Disney California Adventure? Maybe it is working with a memory of the butterfly curtain.

@Judi Definately!

I better go to bed, cause it’s kickin in!! Night all!!

This is why you’re not supposed to take it until you are already in bed. :)

Ambien is used very commonly for this effect – people take the drug and then try to keep themselves awake for as long as possible. For some, it creates a feeling of being drunk while others actually have mild hallucinations. (I haven’t actually tried this, but I have friends who get together and try to keep each other awake).

No, I wanted to go to sleep. My Mother in law is coming today and it was hard to get to sleep last night. Next time I have to use it I will take @augustlan ‘s advice.

Never, but this is my favorite question of the day!

No. When I take ambien, I get high as a kite, so I try to avoid contact with the outside world for fear of embarrassing myself.

I take it and go to bed with a book or movie. I can’t muster the coordination to type of anything with the computer once it hits me. :)

I haven’t taken Ambien in years. But, it is definitely quite interesting to stay awake while on it.

@La_chica_gomela ; Like I did for even asking this question last night?

@Judi Nothing to be embarrassed about! How did your MIL’s arrival go?

@Judi I second what @augustlan said. I often wondered if it was just me who had odd 3d effects when on ambien. I learned from this thread and really it is pretty cool!

@augustlan , It is still stressful. She has health issues and takes to many meds. She uses a walker and showed up WAY over medicated. I’m surprised I got her i the car. She took a nap from 1 PM to 5:00 PM. She is staying in a Hotel and I couldn’t wake her up. I had to get a key from the manager and I was afraid she was dead. She doesn’t want to stay at my house (probably better, but then no one is there if she falls.)
It is going to be a stressful week.
