The food bank was a bust today so it’s time to get creative about Thanksgiving dinner.
I can buy one or two extra items but they have to be less than ten dollars total. Hubbs is vegan so no turkey, yet we can’t afford luxury vegan items like Tofurkey and whatnot.
Here’s what I have-
Flour
Rice
Sugar
Coconut Milk
Pumpkin (canned)
Margarine
½ loaf of wheat bread
Poppy seed filling
3 potatoes
coffee
2 tbsp peach jelly
assorted spices/oils
What can I make? I’m drawing a complete blank -urgh!

@J0E Thanks for the link- it’s a lot better than the other one’s I’ve tried. So far I’ve got donuts, ten kinds of rice, a pumpkin soup (yum!) and bread.
I think I’m screwed. Except for that soup- that sounds great!
Rice pudding
Pumpkin pie
Potato soup (Pennsylvania Dutch cooking has a lot of potatoes)
Pumpkin custard
I never heard of poppy seed filling…
thai coconut custard
Coconut rice (rice plus coconut milk)
I think epicurious.com lets you search by ingredient.
Is there such a thing as a pumpkin rice pudding? I wonder if that would work?
@gemiwing Nothing says Thanksgiving like donuts.
@J0E you totally just made my crappy day better, that was hilarious!
@food- you rock! thanks,
I have a feeling pumpkin rice pudding is in our future. I mean that’s all the food we have so Thanksgiving dinner is going to look a little weird at our house but it’s gonna be tasty!
sounds delicious to me, you´re welcome! I´ll have to try making it someday!
@J0E – Great link! Lurve!
Sounds like potato soup, pumpkin rice pudding and maybe some poppy seed filled shortbread cookies with peach jelly drizzled on them?
Yum, it does sound pretty good. I hope you enjoy it!
