I´m interested in finding out the advantages of being a contralto… I just mentioned sopranos for the sake of striking a discussion. But go ahead, and say what you like about sopranos as well, so that I can be clear of the differences….

Contralto!!!! I can sing high, in my falsetto, but I can also sing loooooow.
I don’t think there’s a better or worse. A person’s vocal pitches and timbres just are.
Yeah definitely. I am in general fond of how women’s voices blend together. I’m in an all-female a cappella group and a female quartet (I’m the low voice, baby!) and I love the sound that comes out. I have a deep admiration for sopranos; I can never sound “angelic”:)
All the leading lady roles are sopranos. :P
But a contralto can sing all the leading tenors roles with some good makeup!
In pop music, are sopranos preferred? How about in rock music?
Wow, I like fluther! I asked this same question on another question board about a couple of years ago, but fluther generates more responses more quickly!
Contralto voices are sexy.
Here are some famous arias sung by leading ladies who have a mezzo-range (slightly lower than sopranos); the few contralto arias are usually in the roles of old ladies or witches, I am told.
MEZZO SOPRANO ARIAS:
1. BIZET: Carmen: L’amour est un oiseau rebelle (Habanera)
2. GOUNOD: Cinq-Mars: Nuit résplendissante
This is from a long forgotten political opera by Gounod,
4. MOZART: Don Giovanni: Vedrai, carino
5. MOZART: Cosi fan tutte: È amore un londrocello
6. DONIZETTI: La Favorite: O mon Fernand
7. HÄNDEL: Alcina: Mi lusinga il dolce affetto
8. MEYERBEER: Les Huguenots: Non, vous n’avez jamais, je gage
9. GLUCK: Orfeo ed Euridice: Che faro senza Euridice
10. MOZART: The Marriage of Figaro: Voi che sapete

Don’t forget the part of Azucena in Il Trovatore and all the great roles that Frederica von Stade sings, such as Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier and Hansel in Hansel und Gretel.
@gailcalled Witches, bitches, and britches is the saying.
I just know it’s better to be a Soprano than a Corleone
@avvooooooo: Lovely. That would include Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro. The part of the young male page is played by a woman; she appears as the boy and then disguises her (him?) self as a young woman.
