Fun things to do in Arlington VT or nearby towns?
We are going to be staying in a log cabin this weekend in Arlington, VT; I am not familiar with the area, but am looking for some things to do. I tried searching online but didn’t really have much luck. Thanks for any suggestions! (Family of 3, 1 young child)

As far as I’m concerned you are in for a treat. I was in the neighborhood over the summer, which may have been a better time weather wise, depending on what you are into. We mostly went hiking. We found short day hikes we could take our little one on, and had a blast. It’s a lot of detail to go into here, try to find a ranger station for the Green Mountain National Forest, there’s one in Manchester, I think. They’ll have lots of info on day hikes and other outdoor activity. Most of what we did was pretty unstructured, but Bromley Village is right up the road, and it might be fun. They have skiing in winter, but also some warm weather stuff too. What kind of things are you looking to do?
Also, if you don’t mind driving there are a lot of farms you can visit. Some have different programs, some are just there. We had a flier that some state agricultural or tourism agency puts out on farms open to the public. I don’t know where we got the flier, but it shouldn’t be hard to find one. We went to one farm (Taylor Farm) not too far from Arlington, and it was literally just park your car and look around. The wee one liked seeing cows, goats, chickens, dogs, donkey, horses, ducks, chickens, etc.
This site should have lots of info
Well, I was going to suggest a nice ride over to Franconia Notch in New Hampshire to see the Old Man of the Mountain of whom I have fond
memories from my college
days in upstate NY.
So I went to check out how far
away it would be and
discovered that he
disappeared back in 2003.
Mother nature was not kind to
this icon which used to draw
visitors from worldwide.
Oh well, “time and tide wait for no man”...
@Buttonstc: Even Old-Manless, Franconia Notch is still very scenic. So is the toll road up Mt. Washington, which reopens for winter Snow Coaches in Dec. That is a spectacular drive, especially if you don’t have to drive.
Well, that’s good to know if I’m ever back in the area.
:)
