Which countries can the US dollar go farthest in?

Asked by MuffinMonarch (148points) November 26th, 2009

I recently came back from China and everything was very cheap especially services. Where else in the world is it cheap for someone from the US to have a great time with not too much coin?

Zimbabwe, Dirt was more valuable than their currency was. I don’t know what it is today but its still pretty bad. Also maybe Afghanistan. The problem though is stuff thats imported like cars or what ever still cost a certain amount cause they are made in other countries so you are still gonna pay like 600 for a laptop. probably more since its imported.

@LKidKyle1985 Zimbabwe actually uses foreign currency now. You might not have to exchange your dollar. Also, countries that are having financial trouble (Iceland, Dubai) are good deals right now.

Pretty much all of them right now, if I read the exchange rates today.

Mexico! Mexico has some of the worlds best beaches, and everything is very cheap for how much you get in return. Even the service you get at a restaurant, they treat you as if you were a god. I have a beach house in Acapulco and try to go up as often as i can.

Probably Zimbabwe. The Zim dollar has experienced such deflation that you can get about $350 of theirs for one US dollar. In fact I believe I heard on NPR recently that the Zims have officially adopted the US dollar as their currency.

Israel: 3.8 shekels to the dollar. Quick, while it’s still high.

Which countries can the US dollar go farthest in? I guess it would be China, since I understand the money I recently got came from loans to the US from there.

@AstroChuck Last numbers were closer to 1 tillion SIM for a dollar. But that currency has been abandoned.

There is an official “Big Mac Index”. It lists the cost of a Big Mac Sandwich at McDonald’s. Looking at the cheapest in the world will give you an idea of where a dollar can go the farthest. Malaysia, China, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Paraguay all do well in this measure. A Big Mac in Norway on the other hand will cost over 4x the price of a Malay Big Mac.

Goes even further in Jive Turkey.
